Company Overview

At Continuous Composites Inc., we are Delivering the Future of Manufacturing. Our unique CF3D® technology for composite 3D printing opens new frontiers in Aerospace and Defense. We thrive on innovation, rapid iteration, and empowering every team member to take initiative and drive breakthrough solutions. Our mission is to transform industrial manufacturing through pioneering research, creative problem-solving, and relentless execution.

Position Overview

We are looking for a proven Aerospace and Defense business developer who knows where the government’s money is, how to shape it, and how to get CCI on contract fast. This role is measured on dollars of orders closed.  The ideal person will thrive on bringing in business. Our sales are not transactional: dollar values are high, sales cycles are long and complex, and most wins require shaping requirements and funding before a solicitation exists.

Our CF3D® technology 3D prints continuous-fiber composites, both polymer matrix (PMC) and ceramic matrix (CMC), producing complex, lightweight, high-performance parts for hypersonics, missiles, propulsion, reentry, unmanned systems, and other demanding defense applications. You will work alongside our Sr. Director of Defense Strategy & Business Development and partner closely with Engineering, Applications, and Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Find and Create Funding: Identify and shape the budget lines, program office funds, and congressional adds that can pay for CCI’s technology, and position CCI in requirements before solicitations are released.
  • Get CCI on Contract Fast: Choose and execute the fastest path for each opportunity: SBIR/STTR (including Phase III sole-source), OTAs and consortia, CSOs, BAAs, STRATFI/TACFI, ManTech, direct awards, and congressionally directed funding.
  • Sell Directly and Through the Primes: Build relationships with program offices, labs, end users, and congressional staff, and get CCI written into prime contractors’ bids and programs through teaming and subcontract agreements.
  • Move Technology into Programs: Carry CCI from development and prototype awards to follow-on production and programs of record (PoR).
  • Lead Capture and Proposals: Own white papers, proposals, and pricing strategy with Engineering and Finance, including technical data rights and IP considerations.
  • Own the Pipeline: Build and forecast a qualified pipeline, track defense priorities and funding trends, and close orders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, materials science, aerospace, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in government business development, defense contracting, federal capture management, government-funded technology development, or a related field.
  • A Record of Closing: Personally closed government or defense orders in the last three to five years. You can name the awards, customers, dollar values, contract vehicles, and your role in winning them.
  • Long-Cycle Selling: Carried high-value pursuits from first contact through award.
  • Deep Contracting Knowledge: Hands-on fluency with FAR/DFARS, SBIR/STTR, OTAs, and other fast-path vehicles.
  • Funding Knowledge: Understanding of how program budgets are built, and how appropriations reach programs.
  • Government Network: Working relationships across several of: Air Force, Space Force, Army, Navy, Missile Defense Agency, DIU, DARPA, and the primes.
  • Technical Aptitude: Able to learn advanced materials and manufacturing well enough to explain CCI’s value and translate customer needs to Engineering. Deep product expertise is not required.
  • Strong Writing: Experience leading or substantially writing proposals and white papers.
  • Ability to Travel: ~50% Travel Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Moving SBIR Phase I or II awards into Phase III, follow-on procurement, or production.
  • Prior DoD acquisition experience as a contracting officer, program manager, or legislative or budget liaison.
  • Experience securing congressional adds or working with appropriations staff.
  • Transitioning a new material or manufacturing process into a program of record, especially additive manufacturing or composites.
  • Understanding of the qualification and manufacturing-readiness challenges new materials face.
  • Background in hypersonics, missiles, high-temperature materials, or reentry systems.
  • Experience at a growth-stage defense or advanced manufacturing company.

This Role Is Not

  • Contracts administration. You choose and shape the path to contract; you don’t primarily process paperwork.
  • Relationships for their own sake. Access matters because it leads to orders.
  • Product or engineering leadership. The technical roadmap stays with Engineering.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
