Role

We are looking for a seasoned Sr. Software Engineer to join our team. This is a hybrid role based in San Jose, CA, reporting to the Sr. Director, Software Engineering within the Digital Experience department. Bring your vision and passion to our team of cloud architects and security experts as we build the world’s largest cloud security platform. You will enable organizations worldwide to harness speed and agility by developing agentic AI features and resilient services at scale.

What you’ll do (Role Expectations)

  • Build agentic AI features by implementing tool-use workflows, retrieval/RAG, and evaluators while hardening for scale and reliability

  • Ship resilient services by designing and operating microservices, data/feature pipelines, and low-latency inference paths with solid observability

  • Operate with excellence by adding tests, monitors, tracing, and dashboards while participating in on-call with an automation-first mindset

  • Collaborate across the Engineering team to enhance our multitenant architecture and expand our global footprint

  • Drive the cloud-first strategy that supports more than 15 million users across 185 countries

What We’re Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)

  • BS in CS (or related) with 4+ years experience, or MS with 2+ years, delivering ML/GenAI features to production

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills driven by first-principles thinking, applying expertise in programming, data, and machine learning

  • Proven experience in the full ML model lifecycle—building, deployment, monitoring, and optimization

  • Hands-on experience with modern GenAI stacks such as LangChain/LangGraph, CrewAI, vector stores, RAG, prompts/memory, or evaluators

  • Solid distributed systems fundamentals including APIs, queues, caching, concurrency, and cloud experience with Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD, and AWS/GCP/Azure

What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Prior delivery of agentic/LLM systems in production, including context engineering and memory management strategies

  • Experience fine-tuning and serving LLMs/SLMs at scale regarding latency, cost, safety, and evals

Zscaler’s salary ranges are benchmarked and are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

The base salary range listed for this full-time position excludes commission/ bonus/ equity (if applicable) + benefits.

Base Pay Range
$112,000$160,000 USD
