You will be starting on offense; the product line (4.5+ star apps & responsive web experiences), business, and tech (modern front-end stacks with significant backend re-architecture just beginning) provide a healthy start, with lots of upside to realize. The calendar engineering team develops solutions powering our mail brands, including a next-generation infrastructure that we are 100% moving to a native public cloud architecture. The calendar team is responsible for creating the next-generation calendar and notepad experience, along with the supporting infrastructure, to help users effortlessly manage their daily lives.

You will be designing and implementing the next generation calendar infrastructure and  services.  We are embarking on a transition from Yahoo data centers  to Public cloud infrastructure. Work on a complete Java stack that serves hundreds of billions of transactions daily.  Develop and maintain REST web-services that power Yahoo clients,  Caldav protocol services, Caching and data processing services. Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical leadership in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

  • Drive and participate in design reviews, code reviews, continuous integration, and test-driven development.

  • Champion technical excellence and the adoption of best engineering practices.

  • Stay current with technology trends inside and outside Yahoo and lead hands-on implementation work.

  • Design, build, and deliver high-quality, high-performance features for our users across Web and backend platforms.

  • Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and engineers across frontend and backend to deliver new features, enhancements, platform improvements, and bug fixes

  • Write testable, reliable, maintainable code with continuous deployment to large-scale, globally distributed production systems.

  • Deploy, monitor, and operate production systems to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance.

  • Analyze and optimize application/platform code and APIs for efficiency and speed.

  • Contribute to a culture of learning through design discussions, code reviews, and mentoring.

Qualifications:

  •  BS in Computer Science (or equivalent) with 6+ years of software engineering experience.

  • Strong foundation in Computer Science, with solid skills in data structures, algorithms, and software design.

  • Proficiency in both frontend and backend technologies:

    • Frontend: Responsive design, JavaScript frameworks (React / Angular / Ember), Node.js, AJAX, HTML5, CSS3, TypeScript, and object-oriented JavaScript.

    • Backend: OOP languages (Java), web servers (Tomcat, Apache, Jetty), relational databases (MySQL, Oracle, Spanner), cloud platforms (GCP, AWS), and backend frameworks.

  • Experience with Web Technologies (Webpack, Superagent, Babel, Web Vitals, Redux Toolkit, Atomic CSS, Storybook, JSON and REST APIs).

  • Experience with scripting languages (PHP, Python, Perl, or Ruby).

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Experience with test-driven development, including frontend frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright) and backend frameworks (TestNG).

  • Strong debugging skills for both frontend and backend systems, including multi-threaded, high-scale applications.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively in geographically dispersed teams. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing mail or calendar applications.

  • Experience with AI Tools.

  • Experience with mobile web development.

  • Familiarity with Scrum, Squad, or similar agile development methodologies.

The compensation for this position ranges from $128,250.00 - $266,875.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
