Position Overview:
Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Sr. Director, HRBP will lead Prothena’s HR programs, policies, procedures, workforce planning initiatives and best practices for the Prothena Commercial organization, that is being built to support the launch of Birtamimab in AL-amyloidosis. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background as an HR Business Partner with deep expertise in recruiting, establishing and developing high performing teams, organizational development and effectiveness, culture building and talent development,
This individual will oversee a wide range of HR initiatives with a focus on recruiting and assessing talent, culture & values, talent development, learning & development, team building, employee engagement, employee relations, and other key HR business partner efforts.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead HR initiatives that will drive business success in a new organization and create a supportive, high-performance work environment within the Commercial organization.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Partnership
- Collaborate with the Commercial team to provide strategic oversight and support for the Commercial organization, ensuring alignment with business objectives
- Develop and implement HR strategies that align with the organization’s short-term business goals and long-term vision
- Work within the HR team to design, gain approval for, and implement compensation and incentive programs tailored to field-based, customer-facing teams
- Oversee HR activities, programs, and people initiatives within the Commercial organization to ensure they align with the mission and goals of the company
- Establish strong, productive relationships with employees at all levels, promoting open communication and constructive feedback
Staffing, Culture, and Employee Engagement
- Partner with Commercial leadership to identify talent needs and execute staffing plans in collaboration with the Talent Acquisition team
- Lead efforts to drive employee engagement and foster a positive organizational culture that reflects the company's values and objectives
- Organize employee activities and events to strengthen employee relations and promote team cohesion as the Company scales and grows
- Conduct confidential investigations, enforce policies, and ensure fairness and equity within the organization
General
- Continuously evaluate the competitiveness of the HR programs and practices against industry benchmarks and comparable organizations
- Maintain knowledge of international HR policies, programs, and legal considerations, ensuring effective coordination between domestic and international HR initiatives
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (with a MA or MBA highly preferred)
- 15+ years of experience in a senior Human Resources role at a publicly traded, high-growth, high-performance company
- Proven experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry, with a focus on high-growth environments
- Experience in both global, best practice company and start-up environments
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships, coach teams, and influence stakeholders across the organization
- Some experience managing teams and leading people is desirable
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach, capable of being both an individual contributor and actively involved in execution
- Quick decision maker with strong results orientation; capable of independently driving programs from concept through completion
- Proficient in coaching employees at all levels of the organization
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical execution, aligning Prothena’s big picture business goals while also managing day-to-day operations

Compensation Overview:
The anticipated annual salary range for this role at the Senior Director job level is $250,000 to $320,000. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include – but are not limited to – the final job level offered, the type and length of experience within the job and industry, relevant education, qualifications, skills, certifications, performance, and business or organizational needs.
The hired applicant will be eligible to receive an annual bonus and an equity grant in the form of stock options.

- Prothena pays the full premium for basic life and disability insurance for all employees.
- Prothena employees are also eligible to enroll in our Company’s 401(k) plan and are always 100% vested in their account balances. The 401(k) plan provides for a quarterly, non-discretionary, 3% company-paid contribution on eligible earnings, as well as an additional, annual discretionary Company match of up to 2% of eligible earnings.
- New Prothena employees are also eligible for 17 days of paid vacation accrued over the course of the first year of employment, paid sick time in accordance with state law, and company-paid holidays – which includes a Company-wide shutdown at the winter holidays.
