The Role

As the Senior Director of HOKA Global Visual Experience, you will lead the vision, strategy, and deployment of global retail concepts that define the HOKA aesthetic and create immersive consumer experiences. Sitting within the Global Retail COE team, you will drive the evolution of retail design, visual merchandising, and consumer experience, ensuring a seamless and brand-elevating journey across all touchpoints.

This role requires a deep understanding of retail strategy, consumer behavior, omnichannel storytelling, and brand experience at scale. You will partner cross-functionally with Global Brand, Regional DTC + Marketing, Merchandising, Creative, and Digital teams to ensure that every retail space reflects HOKA’s brand DNA while delivering business impact, consumer engagement, and commercial success.

Your Impact

The primary functions of this role, include but are not limited to:

Retail Concept Strategy & Direction

  • Spearhead the development and evolution of retail concepts, ensuring a consistent brand aesthetic and compelling storytelling across all store formats.
  • Define and implement a global retail design strategy that aligns with HOKA’s marketplace vision, brand positioning, and consumer experience objectives.
  • Develop and implement toolkits, training programs, and best practices that empower regional teams to execute retail concepts seamlessly and effectively.
  • Champion a consumer-first mindset, ensuring that every retail design and visual merchandising decision enhances engagement, drives conversion, and builds brand loyalty.
  • Partner with regional and global leaders to establish scalable retail guidelines that drive consistency, efficiency, and flexibility across diverse markets.

Transformative Retail & Future Vision

  • Lead the evolution of HOKA’s growing retail presence by driving the Future State Retail Strategy - expanding our footprint through strategic new store openings, remodels, relocations, and optimizations.
  • Drive innovation in retail design, visual merchandising, in-store experiences, and enabling capabilities, ensuring that HOKA remains at the forefront of modern, consumer-centric retail.
  • Analyze market trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging technologies to inform future retail strategies and enhance brand differentiation.

Global Visual Merchandising & Storytelling

  • Establish a 365 Visual Merchandising Strategy, embedding modern retail storytelling techniques that connect with HOKA’s key consumers and seasonal product flows.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of global visual merchandising principles and guidelines that enable our Regions, ensuring alignment between brand expression, retail execution, and commercial success.
  • Integrate compelling, consumer-first storytelling into all retail and omnichannel experiences in partnership with Global Retail Brand Expression, Creative, and Regional VE Teams.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Build and lead a high-performing global team of retail designers, visual merchandisers, and experience specialists, fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Provide strategic direction, mentorship, and professional development to ensure the team remains agile, forward-thinking, and aligned with business priorities.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to establish functional talent pipelines, ensuring succession planning and long-term organizational growth.
  • Act as a strategic conduit between global and regional teams, ensuring collaboration, alignment, and continuous feedback loops for market-specific adaptations.

Business & Financial Acumen

  • Own and manage the Global Visual Experience budget, ensuring strategic resource allocation, cost control, and investment in high-impact initiatives.
  • Utilize data, insights, and performance analytics to inform decision-making and optimize retail experience strategies.
  • Partner with Retail Operations, Finance, and Leadership Teams to ensure alignment between visual experience, revenue growth, and operational efficiency.

  • Retail & Marketplace Expertise – Maintains a pulse on retail trends, consumer behaviors, and competitive landscapes, ensuring HOKA remains at the forefront of modern retail.

We’d love to hear from people with

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent level of experience in retail strategy, store design, or visual merchandising leadership.
  • 10-12+ years of experience in retail visual merchandising, store design, retail concept development, or consumer experience strategy.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior leadership role overseeing global retail environments, store concepts, or visual merchandising strategies.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing global retail experiences, store designs, and visual merchandising strategies that drive brand engagement and business growth.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams across visual merchandising, retail design, and retail operations.
  • Strong background in leading store remodels, new store openings, and retail transformation initiatives.
  • Expertise in consumer journey mapping, retail space planning, and in-store storytelling.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with regional retail teams to scale global strategies across multiple markets.
  • Experience managing large-scale budgets and making data-driven decisions for visual merchandising and store experience investments.
  • Familiarity with retail analytics tools, 3D design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp), and merchandising planning systems is a plus.

$235,000 - $250,000

The salary range posted reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this role in our Goleta, CA location. Individual pay will be determined by location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
