Senior Director, Finance and Commercial

Enterprise Solutions & Business Partnering

Role Overview

The Senior Director, Finance & Commercial leads Gilead's Finance and Commercial ERP solution delivery within the Enterprise Solutions & Business Partnering (ES&BP) organization. This role is accountable for end-to-end ownership of Finance and Commercial business process domains—spanning Record-to-Report, Source-to-Settle, Order-to-Cash, and Commercial Operations—ensuring that ERP capabilities reliably support Gilead's global business operations and strategic transformation.

Operating as a senior solutions leader within ES&BP, this role partners closely with Finance and Commercial Business Tower Leads, the ERP team, PMO, Enterprise Architecture, and Strategic OCM to translate business requirements into cohesive, enterprise-aligned ERP solutions. The Senior Director balances global standardization with business-specific needs in a regulated, life sciences environment.

This position will report to the Vice President, Enterprise Solutions & Business Partnering, and is based in Foster City, CA.

Key Responsibilities

Finance ERP Solutions & Business Enablement

·       Own ERP solution delivery across core Finance business process domains including Record-to-Report (R2R), Source-to-Settle (S2S), and related sub-processes.

·       Partner with Finance Business Tower Leads to ensure business requirements are translated into cohesive, enterprise-aligned ERP solutions.

·       Balance global standardization with business-specific requirements in a regulated, GxP-aware environment.

·       Serve as the primary solutions accountability point for Finance ERP platform performance, roadmap delivery, and business adoption.

·       Lead solution design and delivery for SAP Finance modules (FI/CO, AP, AR, GL, Asset Accounting, Cost Center Accounting) and integration touchpoints.

·       Oversee post-merger integration ERP activities relevant to Finance operations, including harmonization of legal entity structures and chart of accounts.

·       Oversee non-SAP financial applications like FCCS, Breakaway, etc.

Commercial ERP Solutions & Business Enablement

·       Own ERP solution delivery for Commercial business process domains including Order-to-Cash (O2C), Trade & Channel Management, and Gross-to-Net (GTN) processing.

·       Collaborate with Commercial Business Tower Leads and cross-functional stakeholders to design scalable, compliant ERP solutions aligned to Gilead's commercial model.

·       Ensure SAP SD/MM and relevant commercial modules are optimized to support global commercial operations, pricing, and revenue recognition requirements.

·       Drive adoption of standardized commercial ERP processes across regions and business units, managing deviations through a formal governance process.

·       Partner with Finance to ensure end-to-end alignment between commercial revenue processes and financial reporting.

ERP Finance & Commercial Strategy & Roadmap

·       Define and maintain the Finance & Commercial ERP solution roadmap in alignment with business priorities, transformation objectives, and enterprise architecture direction.

·       Set the vision for process-centric, standardized, and scalable ERP capabilities aligned to measurable business outcomes.

·       Identify and evaluate emerging SAP capabilities (e.g., SAP S/4HANA innovations, SAP Joule AI agents, Business Data Cloud integrations) relevant to Finance and Commercial domains.

·       Ensure roadmap delivery is sequenced to minimize business disruption while accelerating value realization.

·       Communicate roadmap progress and tradeoffs clearly to executive and business audiences.

Program Delivery & Governance

·       Serve as solution sponsor for Finance and Commercial workstreams within major ERP programs and releases.

·       Partner with the PMO to ensure disciplined governance, prioritization, risk management, and value realization across Finance and Commercial portfolios.

·       Resolve cross-tower and cross-portfolio tradeoffs impacting Finance and Commercial domains to enable timely decision-making.

·       Ensure all ERP deliverables adhere to Gilead's regulatory compliance standards, including GxP, SOX, and audit readiness requirements.

·       Maintain alignment between solution delivery timelines and business readiness, OCM, and cutover plans.

Enterprise Partnership & Influence

·       Build trusted partnerships with senior Finance and Commercial business leaders, IT leaders, and functional heads across Gilead's global organization.

·       Communicate complex technology and process decisions clearly to executive and business audiences.

·       Influence outcomes across a highly matrixed, global organization, navigating competing priorities effectively.

·       Represent ES&BP in cross-functional steering committees, governance forums, and executive briefings related to Finance and Commercial ERP topics.

Talent, Operating Model & Continuous Improvement

·       Develop and lead a high-performing team of ERP Finance and Commercial solution managers, functional architects, and business analysts.

·       Shape the Finance & Commercial ERP operating model, including sourcing strategies, location mix, and vendor partnerships.

·       Foster a culture of continuous improvement, delivery excellence, and business value orientation within the team.

·       Drive maturity in solution engineering discipline, requirements management, and enterprise delivery practices.

·       Identify and act on opportunities to improve process standardization, delivery velocity, and cost efficiency across Finance and Commercial domains.

Key Skills & Experiences

·       Bachelor's degree with 14+ years of experience in ERP, enterprise platforms, or large-scale transformation leadership; advanced degree preferred.

·       Demonstrated experience leading ERP Finance solution delivery including Record-to-Report, Source-to-Settle, and Order-to-Cash processes.

·       Proven track record delivering complex, multi-year ERP programs in regulated environments (GxP, SOX, FDA 21 CFR Part 11).

·       Strong understanding of SAP-enabled enterprise architectures, SAP S/4HANA Finance and Commercial modules, and operating models.

·       Experience leading and influencing large, global teams in matrixed organizations.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
