You will shape how millions of people connect, engage, and transact in real time—bringing together community, creativity, and commerce in ways that redefine the eBay experience.As Sr. Director of Design for eBay Live, you will define and drive the end-to-end design vision for one of eBay’s most critical 0→1 bets—moving with speed, conviction, and a builder’s mindset to bring a new category of experience to life. This is not about incremental improvement; it’s about inventing the future of live commerce and shaping entirely new behaviors for buyers and sellers.You will lead and rapidly scale a high-performing team of designers and researchers, creating a culture of experimentation, accountability, and relentless focus on impact. You will operate as a hands-on leader, pushing for bold ideas while ensuring fast, high-quality execution.Working in close partnership with executive leadership across Product, Engineering, Business, and Marketing, you will align vision to action—navigating ambiguity, making decisive trade-offs, and accelerating from concept to reality.Responsibilities:Set Vision for the Future of Live Commerce
  • Define and articulate a clear, ambitious design vision for eBay Live across buyer and seller experiences
  • Establish foundational interaction models, experience principles, and systems for real-time commerce
  • Translate emerging behaviors in social, video, and creator ecosystems into product direction
Drive End-to-End Experience Strategy
  • Shape product and experience strategy through clear frameworks, narratives, and prototypes
  • Identify critical customer touchpoints and ensure cohesion across the live ecosystem
  • Guide 0→1 product development, balancing rapid experimentation with long-term coherence
Lead and Build a World-Class Team
  • Build, lead, and coach a multidisciplinary team of product designers and researchers
  • Develop senior talent and establish a strong design leadership bench
  • Support a culture of craft excellence, innovation, and accountability
Influence at the Executive Level
  • Partner with senior leaders across Product, Engineering, and Business to align priorities and drive outcomes
  • Bring clarity to complex, ambiguous problem spaces through design-led thinking
  • Influence roadmaps and investment decisions through compelling vision and insight
Champion Operational Excellence and Scale
  • Establish effective design operations, processes, and rituals for a fast-moving, 0→1 environment
  • Ensure high-quality execution while enabling speed and iteration
  • Drive organizational health, clarity, and cross-functional alignment

Requirements
  • Proven people leader with experience building, managing, and scaling high-performing, cross-functional teams
  • 15+ years of experience in product design, including leadership at scale
  • Demonstrated success leading 0→1 product initiatives in ambiguous environments
  • Ability to solve complex problems and guide teams to deliver actionable insights
  • Exceptional communication skills with a track record of influencing senior and executive stakeholders
  • Deep expertise in interaction design, systems thinking, and end-to-end experience design
  • Strong product judgment balancing user needs with business impact
  • Experience defining, building, and scaling design systems across complex ecosystems
  • Active exploration and application of AI in workflows
  • Strong perspective on the future of social, live, and interactive experiences
  • Passion for creating functional and emotionally engaging user experiences

Additional Details

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
