The opportunity

As the Sr. Director of Design, you will lead multiple product design teams of the Express Product Group across Product Led Growth (PLG), Core, and Horizontals (Education, Enterprise). You will be the champion for seamless end-to-end experiences that cater to diverse needs, are scalable and reusable, and ensure a consistent yet adaptable user experience.

You are:

An experienced leader with a consistent record of successfully managing large distributed (and global) design teams. You possess a strong business sense, display competence in driving quality experiences through your design leadership, and have a skillful approach to prioritization. You are driven by action and results, striving to deliver designs efficiently, analyze both quantitative and qualitative data, and iterate rapidly. Furthermore, you take full ownership of your responsibilities, excel in managing and mentoring others, and embody an entrepreneurial spirit that embraces learning from failures.

In this role, you will:

  • Champion end-to-end, quality experiences. Deliver value quickly and meaningfully to a broad set of users across surfaces, audiences, and geographies. Set the standard for design craft through final implementation, regardless of organizational structure.

  • Own the outcome. Help define design strategy, future vision, goals, success metrics, roadmap, and prioritization. Partner with Product, Engineering, and Marketing Group leaders to develop and implement strategies to ensure teams are delivering against established objectives and key results.

  • Collaborate and partner. Identify and prioritize opportunities in partnership with Product Management, Engineering, Data Science, and Research leaders. Build alignment and clarity between design and partner teams.

  • Be customer driven. Partner deeply with Research and Data to ensure that design decisions incorporate user research and insights, and a rich understanding of behavior. Channel the voice of the customer.

  • Communicate effectively and advocate appropriately. Clearly communicate design strategy and concepts to c-suite, senior leadership, and partners while advocating for how design decisions contribute to business success. Connect with cross functional Adobe teams to influence strategic interlocks while balancing differentiated user experiences that honor a connected ecosystem.

  • Innovate. Bring a deep curiosity about the potential of generative AI to craft better experiences while simultaneously revolutionizing workflows to improve productivity and creativity.

  • Mentor and develop. Offer guidance and support to your team members, embrace accountability of you/your team's results, encourage learning and growth opportunities, and assist them in setting achievable career goals.

What you need to succeed

  • Proven track record of leading the design of large-scale product offerings and systems within a high growth, global, and matrixed environment at the Sr. Director level or above.

  • Demonstrated technical competence and expertise in experience design for consumer products, enterprise products, including web apps and native mobile apps.

  • History of applying creative thinking and analysis to solve business needs in ambiguous environments.

  • Proven experience maintaining and fostering a culture of excellence by recruiting, hiring, and retaining impactful individuals with an eye towards diversity

  • Agility to navigate within a highly matrixed organization, working through and across multiple teams, functions, and structures.

  • Outstanding collaboration and communication skills, with experience working closely with cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.

  • Strong ability to use data and research to inform design decisions and measure success.

  • A history of innovative thinking and a passion for pushing design boundaries to achieve business objectives.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
