Design, build, and integrate data and control systems for hardware testing in aerospace, working closely with technicians and software teams.
The summary above was generated by AI

At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. While our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.

Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

The Factory Test team is responsible for hardware testing in our Long Beach facilities. We use our breadth of experience and collaborative engineering approach to support everything from very large structural tests to precise valve actuation. To that end, we design, build, and operate all test assets in Long Beach from initial concept to test execution. If you enjoy working on a multi-disciplinary team with a broad mandate and want to put hands-on hardware, then this is the team for you.

About the Role:

  • Set the technical direction, evaluate risk, and review design work of the engineering team as it relates to the data collection and control of our structural, mechanism, and component test stands
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, retain, and manage top-tier data and control systems engineers at all levels of seniority
  • Collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects and help build relationships with partner teams at all organizational levels including Structures Test, Fluids Test, Operations, Ground Software, Data Platform, Vehicle Engineering, and others
  • Create, track, and report project schedules and budgets while reducing cost and lead time
  • 50% of your time will be spent in an operational environment focused on real-time problem solving

About You:

  • BS in Electrical engineering or related field or equivalent demonstrated experience and knowledge
  • Significant technical experience with data collection and control systems. Should be able to speak to past projects and direct, personal contributions
  • 3+ years of previous experience leading an engineering team include the full talent life cycle
  • History of activating complex projects in an operational environment and problem-solving in the field
  • Previous experience scaling a team or navigating the transition from development to production

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Familiar with hydraulic and/or electric motion control schemes and applications
  • Demonstrated success in a real-time operational environment like launch operations, test operations, factory turn-around, auto racing pit crew, or stage management. Past aerospace test experience is helpful but not required
  • Familiarity with networking, software development, and deployment schemes
  • Experience leading leaders

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
