PCG is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and strategic Senior Consultant to serve as the Education Services State Director for North Carolina. This role blends the responsibilities of portfolio management, strategic client management and engagement, and business development, overseeing a portfolio of high-impact projects across multiple business lines supporting school districts and state agencies. The ideal candidate will bring a consultative mindset, deep knowledge of the North Carolina education landscape, and a proven ability to drive growth and build lasting relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

Portfolio & Engagement Leadership

  • Lead a portfolio of education-focused projects across North Carolina’s K-12 ecosystem, ensuring alignment with PCG’s mission and client goals.
  • Serve as the engagement lead for key clients.

Strategic Consulting & Problem Solving

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to education leaders, applying data-driven insights, business acumen, and strategic thinking to address systemic challenges.
  • Lead solution design and implementation efforts that support equity, efficiency, and innovation in public education.

Revenue Growth & Advocacy

  • Develop and execute a revenue growth strategy for the North Carolina portfolio, ensuring sustained year-over-year growth.
  • Manage and direct relationships with lobbyists, ensuring alignment with PCG’s strategic goals and advocacy efforts.
  • Collaborate with policy experts to support legislative and regulatory initiatives that impact education funding and innovation.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in alignment with PCG’s strategic priorities.
  • Manage a team of consultants and business development staff to deliver on the revenue growth strategy.

Client Retention & Relationship Management

  • Design and implement a client retention strategy tailored to North Carolina’s education landscape.
  • Build long-term relationships with clients through proactive engagement, responsiveness, and value delivery.

Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

  • Represent PCG across North Carolina, serving as the primary liaison to executive stakeholders within state and local agencies and professional associations.
  • Leverage existing networks to expand PCG’s visibility and impact in the region.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of consultants, analysts, and client service professionals.
  • Foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture focused on client success, problem solving, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in education consulting, public sector strategy, education technology, or K-12 leadership.
  • Deep understanding of North Carolina’s education system, funding structures, and policy environment.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex portfolios and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Strong relationships with North Carolina education stakeholders and policymakers.
  • Proven ability to manage client engagements, deliver results, and grow accounts.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and strategic planning skills.
  • Willingness to travel across the state as needed; up to 50%.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with North Carolina state and local agencies.
  • Familiarity with North Carolina legislative processes and education policy.
  • Background in business development or strategic partnerships in the education sector.

Compensation:

Compensation for roles at Public Consulting Group varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience.  As required by applicable law, PCG provides a reasonable range of compensation for this role. In addition, PCG provides a range of benefits for this role, including medical and dental care benefits, 401k, PTO, parental leave, bereavement leave.

As required by applicable law, PCG provides the following reasonable range of compensation for this role: $88,300-$147,000. In addition, PCG provides a range of benefits for this role, including medical and dental care benefits, 401k, PTO, parental leave, bereavement leave.
