Job Description:

As a Senior Business Development Executive, you will play a pivotal role in driving Legion’s growth across the U.S. Federal Government, with a primary focus on the Department of War (DOW). You will identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities; lead strategic pursuits and proposals; and cultivate strong relationships with government and commercial partners. Success in this role requires a deep understanding of DOW missions, organizations, acquisition processes, and culture. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, relationship-oriented professional who combines strategic insight with hands-on execution and thought leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grow Legion’s federal opportunity pipeline through proactive identification and qualification of new business opportunities, leveraging existing relationships, market intelligence, and industry partnerships.
  • Develop and execute a cohesive, data-driven strategy to shape, capture, and close strategic growth opportunities — enabling Legion to land, expand, and deliver best-in-class capabilities to the U.S. Government.
  • Establish and strengthen executive-level relationships across Program Executive Offices (PEOs), Major Defense Acquisition Programs (MDAPs), prime contractors, and other key stakeholder organizations.
  • Build and maintain customer relationships while continuously assessing competitor capabilities and market trends.
  • Gather and synthesize customer challenges and requirements, translating them into actionable insights for Legion’s engineering and product teams.
  • Represent Legion at industry conferences, forums, and other key events to enhance brand awareness and thought leadership.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of business development or sales experience within the federal government or national security community. Prior military or civilian government service may be considered in lieu of business development experience.
  • Deep understanding of federal missions, structures, and acquisition processes, with emphasis on the DOW.
  • High level of ownership and initiative; comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Proven ability to identify, establish, and maintain relationships with senior government officials and program stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to senior executives and customers.
  • Strong knowledge of government contracting, acquisition trends, and customer buying behaviors.
  • AI/ML Literacy
  • Familiarity with software-specific government security and accreditation requirements.
  • Active Secret security clearance required.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Location: National Capital Region or Tampa, FL preferred.
  • Willingness to travel 25–50%.

Nice to have:

  • Extensive experience and relationships within PEOs, Major Defense Acquisition Programs, prime contractors, and other stakeholder organizations across the DOW, Intelligence Community (IC), and broader federal ecosystem.
  • Proven track record of successfully capturing and expanding new U.S. Government business.
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML technologies or software development.
  • Prior military experience.
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.

If you are a highly motivated and adaptable individual who is excited about the challenge of building something from the ground up and pounding the pavement, we encourage you to apply.

Join us in revolutionizing the AI landscape with Legion Intelligence and be a key driver of our success.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
