About Owlet

Owlet is changing the world of parenting with meaningful products that truly make a difference for millions of families. Our mission is simple but powerful: to bring more joy, more peace, and more sleep to the parenting journey. We've helped more than a million parents keep their little ones safe, and we're just getting started.

The Role

We're looking for our first AI-Native Brand Designer with exceptional craft, a deep instinct for adding emotion to the work, and the confidence to build real systems with AI, not just use it around the edges. You should walk in believing you can replace manual brand workflows with durable, AI-powered ones: templates that generate themselves, campaigns that scale without losing soul, pipelines that turn a single idea into every surface it needs to live on. You're equally at home experimenting at the frontier of the medium.

Above all, you design with a human lens. You care who's on the other side of the screen: a new parent at 3am, a family making a big decision, someone trusting us with the thing that matters most. You're drawn to Owlet because the mission pulls at you, and you want your craft to serve something real.

Reporting to the Head of Design, this role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, comes to the table with solutions, and wants to own the day-to-day voice and systems of Owlet's brand.

What you'll own
  • The day-to-day brand voice and visual system across web, email, social, paid, packaging, retail.
  • Campaign concepts and execution for product launches, seasonal promos, and always-on performance marketing
  • The brand system itself: components, templates, tokens, motion, photography direction, and the guidelines that let the rest of the org move without asking
  • AI-powered workflows that compress timelines and multiply output without sacrificing craft
  • Close partnership with product design, growth, lifecycle, and creative production

RequirementsWho you are
  • A designer who adds emotion to the work. You understand the person on the other side of the screen and design for how they'll feel, not just what they'll see. You can take a product spec and turn it into something that actually lands.
  • AI-native by default. You already build with Figma MCP, Claude, and whatever shipped last week. You see a repetitive task and immediately ask how to automate it. AI is a real part of your process, not a bolt-on.
  • Great collaborator. You lead with empathy and a genuine belief that the best work happens together. Eager to partner closely with marketing stakeholders,  listening first, aligning on shared goals, and rowing in the same direction to create something  truly impactful.
  • Experimenting at the edge of craft. You treat the browser as a design surface. Your craft bar is high and still climbing.
  • Deep craft fundamentals. Typography, layout, color, motion, restraint. You care about the details..
  • Solutions, not problems. You walk in with three directions and a recommendation. Ambiguity energizes you.
  • Experience-first thinker. You design moments, not assets. You think about what someone feels when the email lands, the page loads, the box opens.
  • Systems brain. You see patterns. You build once, reuse ten times, and make the team around you faster.
  • Unfazed by a blank page. You think in experience first, and you trust yourself to work in the voice, draft the words, and shape the moment before anyone hands you a finished deck. You will partner with marketing stakeholder on the copy and intent. You'd rather build something to react to than wait for inputs.
  • A real teammate on the design team. You give and take critique well. You push designers on brand, and you let them push you on systems and usability.
Portfolio requirements
  • Brand and campaign work with a clear point of view and emotional range
  • AI meaningfully embedded in how the work got made, not just in the output
  • Systems thinking alongside hero moments
  • Work that looks modern, considered, and premium
  • Deep knowledge of building / evolving design systems
Nice to have
  • Consumer hardware, health, or parenting category experience
  • AI experimentation work for, generative, 3D, or other experimental craft work where you pushed the medium
  • Photography art direction
  • Knowledge of Github
  • Knowledge of ux design

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
