Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Backend Software Engineer to join our growing team. As a Senior Backend Engineer, Public Sector, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the systems that power our software products.
Security Clearance: This role requires eligibility for U.S. security clearance based on current or future interactions with domestic and foreign governments.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable and maintainable backend systems using a variety of programming languages
- Act as a mentor to junior engineers on the team
- Think ahead and draft up milestone goals for deliverables
- Participate in architecture design reviews and development of projects
- Optimize database performance and implement data security measures
- Write clean, maintainable code that follows best practices and adheres to coding standards
- Troubleshoot and debug issues as they arise
- Write unit tests and participate in code reviews to ensure the quality and reliability of our products
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience in creating, deploying and managing open-source spatial data infrastructure such as tileserver-gl, mapproxy, geoserver and PostgreSQL
- 5+ years of experience creating custom SQL functions for PostgreSQL using PL/pgSQL or PL/Python
- 5+ years of experience building automated data pipelines using container orchestration platforms
- 5+ years of experience using spatial data processing libraries such as GDAL and CGAL or wrappers for them in Python, Java or Go
- 3+ years of experience generating and deploying Mapbox or Maplibre Vector Tiles (MVT) using tools such as tippecanoe, pg_tileserv, martin, t-rex, tegola or PostGIS
- 5+ years of experience and deep domain knowledge of OpenStreetMap data schema and processing using tools such as imposm3, osm2pgsql, osmosis or osmium
- 5+ years of experience creating containerized backend services for OGC compliant spatial APIs such as WMTS, TileJSON, OGC Tiles and TMS
- 3+ years of experience in JavaScript.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- 3+ years of experience in backend development using Python
- Experience with database design and management
- Experience with Git
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
- Knowledge of REST API design principles
Nice-to-haves
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS or GCP
- Experience with continuous integration and deployment tools
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker
