Rockstar is recruiting for a mission-driven clean energy finance company that is transforming the way clean energy projects are financed. Since 2024, the client’s tax credit transfer business has led the industry in volume with over $8B transacted, and its compliance business is building disruptive software for developers to track operations and ensure regulatory compliance.

About the Company

The company has built a consistently profitable company, focused on building for the long term. It raised a small seed round of funding in 2023, and has since repaid its investors in full. It does not have pressure from VCs or outside investors to chase short-term targets.

The company has worked hard to build a mission-driven company culture that values creativity, collaboration, excellence, and speed without sacrificing fun. Its talented team includes experienced leaders from the clean energy ecosystem. The company is growing rapidly.

The company looks for curious, smart, and kind colleagues with an entrepreneurial streak (it has quite a few ex-entrepreneurs on its team). The company is a great place to learn from energy finance experts and play a critical role in deploying clean energy technologies.

About the Role

This is a high-upside opportunity for an exceptional early-career generalist with a sharp analytical mind, a bias for action, and the ambition to grow into a future leader.

The candidate will help the company support high-impact transactions, expand sales operations, and uncover new growth opportunities through partnerships.

The majority of the candidate’s time will be spent in origination and negotiation towards the bottom of the company’s sales funnel, but the candidate must be comfortable flexing into the top of the funnel in a business development capacity (e.g., leading outreach sequences and developing BD strategy). The candidate will work closely with the leadership team on some of the company’s most critical initiatives, and will be empowered to take on increasing ownership and lead projects.

What the Candidate Will Do
  • Originating and managing relationships with tax credit buyers and sellers
  • Origination: Managing top-of-funnel outreach; researching and developing a target list, and developing creative and data-driven campaigns to unlock conversations with new customers
  • Negotiation: Leading conversations with both tax credit buyers and sellers, and managing all follow-ups in a fast and detail-oriented manner
  • Partnership:
    • Serving as a trusted and consultative partner who can answer highly technical questions as well as big-picture strategic questions
    • Building the case for working with the company, drawing on insights collected from direct conversations with customers and partners
  • Developing the company’s business and operationalizing sales processes:
    • Developing efficient sales processes; getting creative with existing and new tools to drive continued, measurable customer growth
    • Creating sales materials to educate tax credit buyers and sellers
    • Demonstrating initiative and ownership in handling business development tasks
What the Candidate Will Need
  • 4–5+ years of success in a fast-paced environment such as investment banking, private equity, management consulting, or a fast-growing startup
  • Excellence in communication at the enterprise, executive-level counterparties

The company is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates are encouraged to apply even if their experience doesn’t line up exactly with the job description.

Nice to Haves
  • Professional experience in clean energy finance (e.g., solar, wind, battery storage)
  • An interest in becoming a future leader in clean energy
Why Join the Company?
  • Helping scale one of the most exciting and impactful clean energy finance companies
  • Working directly with experienced founders and a top-tier team
  • Competitive compensation, equity, and benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Traveling to company offsites 2-3x per year to meet teammates in person
  • Flexible PTO plan

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
