Job Description

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

The Sr. Applications Engineering role is central to Savant Power's mission. Your technical expertise in battery and photovoltaic systems will help bring sustainability and energy independence to our customers. You'll work with installers and customers to distill site requirements, validate system designs against their needs and applicable codes, and ensure quality deployments. You'll also leverage customer insights to enhance training content, support tools, and influence product improvements with our engineering and product teams.

Ideal candidates will possess deep understanding of solar and energy storage technologies, familiarity with industry standards, and a passion for educating others about how these innovations are shaping the energy future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and validate contractor system designs against Savant Power specifications, providing technical feedback on plans, schematics, and system layouts to ensure compliance and adherence to best practices.
  • Partner with sales and new customers to translate their existing system experience (or competitive solutions) into Savant Power system designs, providing technical guidance on architecture and deployment options.
  • Deliver technical training and education at industry events, distributor workshops, and trade shows to educate partners and customers on Savant Power capabilities and deployment best practices.
  • Champion product improvements by synthesizing customer feedback (both wins and challenges) and delivering insights to Product Management and Engineering to guide future development.
  • Keep pace with emerging residential battery storage programs and incentives—including Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems, Virtual Power Plants, and rebate/financing opportunities—to identify ways Savant Power can better serve customers and capture new market segments.
  • Stay informed on building and fire codes, with particular attention to regional variations, to advise the company on compliance requirements and identify code-driven business opportunities.
  • Provide on-site technical support for key customer deployments and complex installations to ensure successful execution and gather real-world implementation insights.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THIS POSITION

  • Must be based in California, preferably southern California.
  • 5+ years of experience in the residential solar industry, with a preference for experience with Behind-the-Meter (BTM) and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) assets.
  • Proven ability to analyze electrical, structural, mechanical, and architectural drawings
  • Ability to break down complex engineering concepts for working with non-technical stake holders.
  • Experience managing multiple projects operating concurrently providing concise feedback on project status to identify critical conditions.
  • Thrives on both team wins and individual contribution
  • Embrace rapid change in a startup-minded company operating in an industry navigating significant evolution.
  • Engineering degree not required.  Industry experience is more important than education.  Must be able to read plans.  Must understand the latest codes and regulations.  Must have experience seeing power systems being built.

COMPENSATION

  • The base salary range is $135,000 - $155,000.  The salary range listed is an estimate. Pay at Savant is determined by multiple factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s geographical location, relevant education, experience and skills and an evaluation of internal pay equity.
  • This is a direct-hire position with full benefits including: medical / dental insurance;  vision plan;  pet insurance;  FSA / HSA;  12 paid holidays;  permissive time off policy;  401k plan with employer match.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
