About the Role:The Senior Application Integration (API) Engineer is responsible for building, operating, and evolving Neurocrine’s enterprise integration layer to support omnichannel, digital marketing, and data platform initiatives. This role is primarily hands-on, using Workato as the core orchestration platform while developing production-grade Python solutions where needed for custom logic, transformation, validation, and operational support.
This engineer owns the reliability and day-to-day performance of mission-critical integrations connecting web platforms, Salesforce ecosystem tools, Databricks, and third-party systems. In partnership with platform and engineering leadership, the role helps establish reusable integration patterns, CI/CD practices, observability standards, and secure integration methods that reduce vendor dependency and enable scalable growth across Neurocrine’s digital ecosystem.

_

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain Workato-based integrations and automation workflows supporting enterprise and omnichannel use cases.

  • Develop production-grade Python code for integration logic, data transformation, validation, operational tooling, and custom extensions where platform-native capabilities are insufficient.

  • Build and support bidirectional data integrations between Databricks, web platforms, Salesforce ecosystem tools, and third-party services.

  • Implement data transformation, normalization, schema mapping, and validation for inbound and outbound integrations.

  • Own operational reliability for assigned integrations, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, root cause analysis, retry handling, and long-term remediation.

  • Implement secure integration patterns including authentication, authorization, token management, API security, and secrets handling using standards such as OAuth and JWT.

  • Contribute to reusable integration patterns, standards, and lifecycle practices in partnership with platform and engineering leadership.

  • Support CI/CD, testing, release management, and environment promotion practices for integration workflows and related code artifacts.

  • Review integration designs and implementations delivered by contractors or external partners to ensure scalability, maintainability, and alignment with enterprise standards.

  • Collaborate closely with Data Engineering, Marketing Technology, Web, and platform teams to onboard new systems, data sources, and activation capabilities.

  • Evaluate integration issues and architectural risks, and escalate or challenge patterns that may create reliability, scalability, or maintainability concerns.

  • Support ongoing optimization, scalability, and operational stability of the integration ecosystem.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or related technical field and 4+ experience with system/data integration, development or implementation of enterprise and/or cloud software OR

  • Master's degree and 2+ years of similar experience noted above OR

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience (8+ years)

  • Experience building and supporting production integrations using Workato, MuleSoft, Boomi, or similar integration platforms.

  • Strong experience with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, and common web service integration patterns.

  • Ability to write production-quality Python code.

  • Strong SQL skills.

  • Experience implementing secure integration patterns, including OAuth, JWT, API keys, token management, and secure data transmission.

  • Experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational support for integration-heavy or distributed systems.

  • Experience with data transformation, mapping, schema management, validation, and error handling in production environments.

  • Experience with cloud-based architectures in Azure, AWS, or GCP.

  • Experience integrating with enterprise data platforms such as Databricks.

  • Familiarity with Delta Lake or similar modern data storage patterns is preferred.

  • Familiarity with customer data and activation platforms such as Salesforce Data Cloud and Salesforce Marketing Cloud is preferred.

  • Experience supporting CI/CD and release management for integration workflows, automation platforms, or related engineering assets.

  • Familiarity with near-real-time and event-driven integration patterns.

  • Ability to assess technical tradeoffs and identify integration design risks in collaboration with engineering and platform leadership.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Understanding of data privacy, security, and compliance considerations.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
