Senior Analyst, Business Operations

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Clinical Services, the Senior Analyst, Business Operations supports a broad system-wide portfolio, including Surgery, Cardiovascular, Anesthesia, and Ambulatory Surgery Centers across Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

This role functions as a strategic and operational partner to the SVP, VP, and operational leaders supporting both day to day performance and long-term planning across the portfolio. The Senior Analyst advances operational and financial performance through hands-on business planning, detailed financial and operational analysis, and the integration of internal and external market data. The Senior Analyst will work closely with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders to identify opportunities, solve complex problems, and drive measurable results.

Role and Responsibilities: Thrives in a matrixed management structure: The Senior Analyst operates effectively within a highly matrixed, multi-layered organization. This individual demonstrates strong organizational awareness and judgment, leveraging experience and insight to deliver meaningful operational analytics and decision support to senior leadership.

Directly supports clinical and operational directors: Partners closely with directors to manage budgets, monitor financial and operational performance, and identify actionable opportunities to improve revenue, access, and efficiency. Provides hands-on support in addressing operational challenges—not solely reporting data, but helping to interpret, prioritize, and act on it. Proactively challenges assumptions and influences decision-making based on financial and operational insight.

Leads business assessment processes: Independently drives and supports a range of analytical efforts, including business plan development, market and competitive analysis, Case Mix Index (CMI) evaluation, and identification of contribution margin improvement opportunities. Assesses cost/benefit scenarios, including outsourcing or process redesign, to capture high-value opportunities and improve financial performance.

Integrates financial and clinical operations insight: Develops a working understanding of clinical workflows, provider productivity, access metrics, and patient flow to ensure financial analyses are grounded in operational reality. Translates operational drivers into financial performance opportunities and actionable recommendations.

Facilitates effective stakeholder engagement: Partners with the leadership team, leverage bi-directional communication with the right partners to identify ways to improve business operations, including expense savings (example: surgical supplies), revenue cycle/billing, and process improvement/efficiency options.

Plan and Execute: Represents operations in high-impact, high-cost areas, partnering with leaders to facilitate discussions, build consensus, and drive execution of initiatives that improve efficiency, throughput, and overall performance (e.g., supply chain, clinical operations).

Business modeling for operational efficiency: Assesses current state performance and develops robust financial and operational models using internal data and industry benchmarks (e.g., Sg2, Vizient). Supports site-of-care optimization, service line performance improvement, and strategic growth planning through well-developed, data-driven business cases.

Drives revenue and performance improvement: Identifies and quantifies opportunities for revenue growth, capacity expansion, and performance optimization. Partners with leadership to implement initiatives and track outcomes tied to measurable financial and operational improvements.

Demonstrates effective communication and presentation skills: Effectively gathers, synthesizes, and translates complex data into clear, actionable insights. Develops recommendations and presents findings to senior leadership, incorporating feedback and iterating as needed to support decision-making.

Performs advanced financial analysis Partners with the SVP and Finance to conduct detailed analyses that inform operational strategy, including growth planning, capital investments, expense management, and revenue enhancement opportunities. Provides deeper insights into performance drivers and supports data-informed decision-making.

Supports financial/budget project management: Works closely with the SVP and Finance team to support the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial performance management. Collaborates with the budget office and operational leaders to review, analyze, and respond to monthly variance reporting. Prepares written reports and presentations of analysis. Presents to senior leaders.

BASIC SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Masters preferred in relevant field, equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Deep analytical experience in healthcare operations with particular knowledge of ambulatory and/or clinical service lines.
  • Strong analytical expertise with demonstrated ability to link financial performance to clinical and operational drivers.
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in a collaborative fashion. Requires a familiarity with service line administration, preferably in an academic medical center, multi-hospital, and/or outpatient practice setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate between financial data and clinical operations, including understanding of access, throughput, and provider productivity drivers.
  • Superior financial skills, including accounting and forecasting, with a proven track record of financial analysis that supports healthcare operations’ drive for results.
  • Highly effective communication, management, and leadership skills; the ability to conceptualize, plan, facilitate and execute consistently and effectively.
  • Demonstrated strong financial, analytical, and resource management skills.
  • Success in collaborating with high performing teams aligned with strategic initiatives and goals.
  • Proven experience successfully influencing and supporting change across the continuum in a complex health care environment.
  • Strong relationship-building skills across physicians, clinicians, administrators, and executive leadership
  • Demonstrated success driving change and supporting strategic initiatives within a healthcare environment.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively complex experience in healthcare operations.
  • Experience in finance management or business administration required.
  • Demonstrated skill in program development, business management, and analysis.

Pay Range:

$110,302.40-$182,000.00
