Job Description Summary

As a Regulatory Solutions Specialist, you'll respond to and resolve high impact escalations and/or requests received from customers, internal business partners and/or external entities. In addition, you'll review regulatory requests and/or complaint trends and recommend process and practice improvements. We'll count on you to analyze changes in regulatory requirements, and handle sensitive issues with professionalism, care, and flexibility, aligned with overall company processes and procedures, ensuring expectations are met in a timely manner and supporting an improved overall customer and business experience.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets high impact complaints of increased complexity, regulatory requirements, insurance statues and/or regulations impacting the products and procedures of assigned product(s) and/or operational area. Performs root cause analysis to identify primary causes of complaints or regulatory requests. Consults with business groups on recommended workable solutions; communicates and advises management on compliance and legal implications.

  • Evaluates written and verbal messages from state insurance departments, customers and/or complainants to determine proper disposition.

  • Communicates timely resolution decisions to customers according to procedures and regulatory guidelines. Advocates the interest of both the customer and Nationwide to ensure an equitable solution on behalf of the customer where possible.

  • Corresponds by telephone, email and/or letter with customers, complainants, and state insurance departments on behalf of the company, in connection with customer relations and/or regulatory matters.

  • Resolves issues with business units and initiates leadership feedback on resolution options.

  • Reconciles complaint and/or regulatory records with customer and/or state department of insurance records.

  • Provides guidance and support to leaders and/or employees for complaint handling and regulatory requests procedures and practices consistent with regulatory requirements.

  • Reviews and advises management of complaint and/or regulatory trends. Identifies potential quality, training, process improvements and optimal practices. May participate in projects or committees.

  • May review work product of other associates and provide coaching, feedback, and training assistance for less experienced associates.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships:  Reports to Regulatory Solutions Manager.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in business administration, accounting, finance, insurance, or pre-law preferred.

Experience: Typically, five years of related work experience, preferably with cross functional business unit exposure in claims, underwriting, and or customer solutions; or two years if hold J.D.

License/Certification/Designation: Licensing may be required as is continuing education, as required by state(s). CPCU, MCM, AIC and similar industry designations preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proven knowledge of insurance and/or financial services concepts, policies, practices, and procedures in areas such as claims, personal lines, commercial lines, processing, direct channel sales/NSS, policyholder services and premium rating and customer service methodologies. Prefer familiarity with insurance laws and regulations and their application to related policy forms. Strong verbal and written skills to communicate technical insurance and/or financial information to customers, employees, all levels of management and department of insurance associates. Ability to analyze insurance laws, regulations, legislation, and bulletins, and to evaluate and recommend solutions to complaint, regulatory and/or market conduct issues. Ability to produce written analyses and advise support areas on regulatory requirements, changes, and policy forms. Ability to operate personal computer and related business and product-specific software.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Recourse Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Non-standard work hours may be required due to pending complaint and market conduct resolution issues and project work.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. Note on Compensation for Part-Time Roles: Please be aware that the salary ranges listed below reflect full-time compensation. Actual compensation may be prorated based on the number of hours worked relative to a full-time schedule.

The national salary range for Specialist, Regulatory Solutions : $79,500.00-$148,500.00

The expected starting salary range for Specialist, Regulatory Solutions : $79,500.00 - $119,500.00
