Position Overview

BetaNXT is seeking a Data Specialist to join our growing Data Governance team, reporting to the Manager, Data & Context Governance. This role is responsible for the day-to-day execution of data stewardship activities for an assigned business domain — maintaining data quality, metadata, and documentation standards that keep BetaNXT's data assets accurate, well-organized, and trustworthy.

This is a hands-on, execution-focused role. The Data Specialist works closely with their manager and assigned business domain partners to apply governance standards consistently, resolve data quality issues, and maintain the data catalog and related artifacts. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented data professional to build a career in data governance within a growing wealth management technology organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

Data Stewardship

  • Serve as the day-to-day steward for an assigned business domain (e.g., Trading, Accounts, Positions, Pricing), maintaining accurate and complete metadata for data assets within that domain.
  • Apply data governance policies, procedures, and standards established by the Manager, Data & Context Governance consistently across assigned areas.
  • Partner with business and technical stakeholders in the assigned domain to understand data needs and resolve day-to-day data questions and issues.

Data Quality Management

  • Monitor data quality within the assigned domain against defined standards and metrics.
  • Identify, log, and help resolve data quality issues, escalating systemic or cross-domain issues to the Manager.
  • Support root-cause analysis for recurring data quality problems.

Data Cataloging & Documentation

  • Maintain and update the data catalog and data dictionary for assigned data assets, ensuring definitions, lineage, and classifications are current and accurate.
  • Document data governance processes, decisions, and issue resolutions clearly and consistently.
  • Support ongoing data classification efforts to ensure proper accessibility and use of data assets.

Compliance Support

  • Support compliance with data protection and privacy requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, or other applicable standards) within the assigned domain.
  • Flag potential compliance or data handling concerns to the Manager.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in training and enablement activities to build data literacy within the assigned business domain.
  • Provide input on process improvements based on day-to-day stewardship experience.
  • Collaborate with other Data Specialists and the Manager to maintain consistent standards across domains.
Skills and Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in data management, data quality, or data stewardship, ideally within financial services, banking, or wealth management.
  • Working knowledge of data governance principles, including metadata management, data classification, and data quality practices.
  • Familiarity with data governance or catalog tools (e.g., Data.World, Informatica, Collibra, Alation) is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, well-organized documentation.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with business and technical stakeholders across time zones.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote, offshore team structure while maintaining close alignment with a US-based manager.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Information Systems, Business, Finance) or equivalent practical experience.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
