As a Specialist, North America Communications at Mastercard, you will help shape and amplify storytelling across the U.S. in support of the company's broader business priorities, including payments, innovation, and brand initiatives.
This role blends earned media, owned content, and integrated campaign support, ensuring communications align with marketing efforts and business objectives. You will play a key role in executing strategies that bring Mastercard's value proposition to life for key audiences, partnering across teams to deliver cohesive, high-impact communications programs.
Key Responsibilities
Integrated Communications & Campaign Support• Support the development and execution of North America integrated communications strategies, ensuring alignment across earned, owned, and paid channels.• Partner closely with our integrated marketing and communications teams to activate campaigns through media relations, storytelling, and content amplification.• Help localize global narratives for North America audiences, ensuring relevance to regional business priorities and market dynamics.
Media Relations• Monitor the North America media landscape to identify opportunities for Mastercard to lead or contribute to key conversations across business, finance, technology, and consumer trends.• Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers to secure impactful coverage.• Develop and manage media materials, including press lists, briefing documents, messaging frameworks, and recaps, to support regional announcements and campaigns.
Storytelling & Content Creation• Contribute to the creation of compelling, insight-driven content (press materials, bylines, blogs, social content, and thought leadership) aligned with Mastercard's business priorities and brand narrative.• Translate complex topics related to payments, services, data, and innovation into clear, engaging stories for diverse audiences.• Support newsroom and content hub updates that reinforce Mastercard's leadership across the broader payments and technology ecosystem.
Cross-Functional Collaboration• Collaborate with regional and global stakeholders, including marketing, product, and executive communications teams, to ensure message alignment and campaign cohesion.• Act as a connector across teams to ensure communications efforts are integrated, consistent, and impactful.
Key Skills & Qualifications
Experience• 2-4 years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or integrated marketing communications, ideally with exposure to North America markets.• Agency or in-house experience supporting integrated campaigns is preferred.
Integrated Mindset• Understanding of how earned media fits within broader integrated marketing strategies, including content, digital, and paid amplification.• Ability to align communications efforts with marketing and business objectives.
Storytelling• Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling, and audience-centric narratives across channels.
Media Relationships• Experience building relationships with US media across business, finance, technology, and trade outlets.• Familiarity with the U.S. media and consumer and business influencer landscapes is a plus.
Strategic Thinking• Ability to connect execution to broader business goals and campaign priorities.• Strong judgment and problem-solving skills in fast-paced environments.
Communication Skills• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics.
Collaboration• Highly collaborative and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities simultaneously.
Education• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. Mastercard benefits for interns generally include: 56 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time; jury duty leave; and on-site fitness facilities in some locations.

Purchase, New York: $84,000 - $135,000 USD
