The Role

The Specialist, Communications is a key contributor on the team responsible for promoting and protecting Netflix’s reputation for series, films, live events and games. The ideal candidate has a passion for entertainment and business, and vast curiosity about how companies tell stories. In addition to helping define the Netflix narrative through proactive press stories, this role will support the communications strategy for our growing Consumer Products and Experiences business and franchise portfolio, including but not limited to: campaign planning and execution, product and experience launches, and media relations. This role is based out of the Los Angeles office and reports to the Manager, Communications. 

Our ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and a relationship builder with communications / PR experience working on entertainment franchises and specifically in retail, consumer products, and experiences. We’re looking for a creative and collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and is an entrepreneurial self-starter unafraid to take calculated risks. They will have a finger on the pulse of culture with experience supporting campaigns for entertainment, media, retail or consumer products/lifestyle companies, including working with creators, licensing and retail partners, industry representatives and the press. They will be able to make wise decisions and exercise sound judgment even when faced with ambiguity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support with developing and implementing communications strategies, messaging and plans to amplify Netflix’s consumer products and experiences initiatives, including: retail campaigns and product launches, pop-up and permanent retail storefronts, restaurants,  touring experiences, and stage plays, and our newest venture - Netflix House. 

  • Work closely with external partners across consumer products and experiences to  execute communications strategies and drive alignment; review plans and materials, and optimize opportunities that yield quality press coverage and reinforce Netflix and franchise positioning. 

  • Support day-to-day franchise alignment and internal review processes, interfacing with cross-functional partners, including publicity, marketing, data, consumer products, experiences, and other teams as needed.

  • Draft communications plans, announcements, briefing materials, and messaging documents.

  • Track, vet, and respond to media requests; developing and nurturing media contacts. 

  • Identify impactful story angles, craft pitches, and secure stories centered around Netflix’s consumer products and experiences.

  • Track, analyze and circulate press coverage reports and competitive research.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in corporate or agency settings preferably within retail, consumer products, brand, lifestyle, and experiences.

  • Ability to leverage insights, develop and secure stories aligned to company priorities.

  • Good media relationships at traditional and emerging entertainment, consumer, trade and business outlets.

  • Demonstrated track record of handling high volume of complex projects and tasks for multiple people and teams while simultaneously managing competing priorities.

  • A curious and ambitious self-starter with a pulse on what makes for culture-defining conversations and an ability to put Netflix at the forefront.

  • Passionate about the evolving entertainment landscape with a strong working knowledge of different press, social platforms and trends.

  • Clear and concise communication style; strong written and verbal skills.

  • Meticulous organizational skills, good judgment of brand and comms risks, and effective time management.

  • Have a point of view, and be able to offer a unique perspective and voice.

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $128,000.00 - $208,000.00.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
