At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

The  Institutional Onboarding team is made up of high functioning, solutions oriented, compliance support professionals at different levels who work independently and together to mitigate risk for Coinbase and our clients.  The team builds relationships with Sales, Account Managers, Compliance, Engineering, etc. to rapidly drive the Onboarding process forward.

Investigations and findings are documented in the client’s Salesforce application, written narratives and in Ironclad. The Analyst (specialist) is up to date on and considered an SMEs in industry standards and developments in the areas of KYC, BSA/AML, and OFAC, and apply regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures to case investigations.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Communicate directly with high profile clients to perform platform walk-throughs, answer difficult and complex questions, identify and explain documentation requirements, escalate sensitive requests
  • Conduct investigative review and analysis in support of Coinbase’s KYC/AML regulatory compliance policies and program including confirming and analyzing documentation received and required during the application review and provisioning process
  • Analyze client responses, documentation and KYC information and conduct due diligence reviews in support of detailed Coinbase processes and procedures
  • Document Client Due Diligence / Enhanced Due Diligence investigations in written narratives
  • Decide whether activity warrants escalation for additional review and subsequently recommend whether documentation appears suspicious and warrants rejecting the client's application after receiving appropriate approvals
  • Incorporate feedback from Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams
  • Maintain detailed documentation to demonstrate compliance with regulations and internal policies and procedures
  • Remain current with industry standards and developments in the areas of KYC, BSA/AML, and OFAC, and apply regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures to case investigations

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • B.A./B.S. degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience onboarding regulated clients and conducting AML/KYC investigations and customer due diligence
  • Working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines (e.g., BSA, OFAC, FinCEN guidance)

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
