The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape future space missions across the national security space enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including United States Space Force, United States Space Command, Air Force Material Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation.
The Enterprise Cybersecurity & Integration (EC&I) organization works alongside the US Space Systems Command (SSC) S6 (Communications) Office to safeguard the future of space systems by providing expert knowledge in various domains of cyberspace, such as cybersecurity, program protection, cryptography, data governance & architecting, and software. We are looking for an experienced Cybersecurity Engineer (Sr. Project Engineer, Engineering Project Management and Cyber Security Architecture). In this position you will be defining and leading cybersecurity strategies and guidance that is vital to shaping the security of tomorrow's space missions.
Work Model: This position's work model is hybrid. The employee will report on-site at Los Angeles Air Force Base, El Segundo at least 4 days a week, with additional on-site presence dependent on customer needs.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Engage proactively and strategically with stakeholders across the space and cybersecurity communities to develop and articulate security architecture strategies and methodologies aimed at reducing cybersecurity risk to space systems.
  • Lead and/or contribute to the development of cybersecurity policies and best practices tailored for space systems.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, driving SSC S6 cybersecurity initiatives from inception through completion.
  • Identify and lead matrixed Aerospace engineering staff and project teams to tackle complex challenges in cybersecurity.
  • Stay at the forefront of DoD and DAF security regulations and frameworks for designing systems and processes.

What You Need to be Successful - Sr. Project Engineer, Engineering Project Management and Cyber Security Architecture
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor or higher degree from an accredited technical program in engineering, computer science or other applicable degree.
  • 12 years of related relevant professional experience in scientific or engineering positions, with at least 4 years in the cybersecurity discipline.
  • Deep understanding of defense-in-depth strategies, zero-trust models, identity and access management (IAM), risk assessment, and vulnerability assessment techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in taking concepts from security frameworks and applying them practically to the design of a security solution.
  • Willing to travel domestically approximately 10%.
  • A current TS/SCI security clearance with the ability to obtain additional clearances, which are issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to acquire a security clearance.

  • Advance degree in engineering, computer science or other applicable degree.
  • Experience with space acquisition policies, processes, and/or budgeting.
  • Experience with systems engineering fields, including requirements engineering, verification, test, and/or risk management.
  • Network and Cloud Security Expertise: Excellent knowledge of firewalls, IDS/IPS, and network segmentation; Proficient in cloud security models, cloud-native security tools, security posture and compliance.

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
