About Nerdio

At Nerdio, our mission is to simplify the lives of IT professionals and maximize their Microsoft cloud and end user computing investments.

We support organizations of all sizes looking to deploy, manage, and cost-optimize native Microsoft technologies. We partner with Enterprises and Managed Service Providers all over the world to add value on top of their existing native Microsoft investments like Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Windows 365, and Microsoft Intune.

Created in 2016, Nerdio has always taken a market-leading and collaborative approach to cloud deployment and management. In fact, our product roadmap is greatly influenced by the regular feedback we receive from having seen companies deploy AVD into production environments several thousand times using Nerdio technology.

Today, Nerdio is used in over 50 countries by more than 15,000 organizations of every size and vertical. We’re committed to delivering exceptional service and support, which starts with identifying and supporting the best staff possible.

We are a fast-moving, nimble company looking for individuals who are collaborative, empathetic, driven and who love to move at the speed of light. If you want to be part of the AVD transformation that Microsoft and Nerdio are leading, then we want to speak with you.

About the role

The Corporate Development team is Nerdio's internal R&D and AI engineering hub. The team builds the automations, AI agents, AI-powered tools, and full-stack internal applications that make every other team at Nerdio faster and smarter. It also owns the data warehouse that powers reporting and analytics across the business.

This role is the technical lead of that team. You are equally hands-on builder and team multiplier: shipping prototypes and production-grade internal applications yourself, while also setting the technical direction for the team, stewarding the data warehouse alongside the data engineers, and coaching colleagues on how to work effectively with modern AI development tooling.

It is an exceptionally broad role: one day you are designing an agentic workflow, the next you are reviewing a pull request, the next you are running a team-wide session on how to use Claude Code or Cursor productively, and the one after that you are pitching a new internal product to leadership. It suits someone who is senior enough to own architecture, hands-on enough to still guide the build, generous enough to make the people around them better, and outgoing enough to actively sell the team's work across the company.

What you'll do

Research, Development & Rapid Prototyping

  • Own Nerdio's internal R&D roadmap for AI, automation, and tooling — turning business problems across the company into working prototypes and, where appropriate, production-grade internal systems.
  • Continuously evaluate new AI models, frameworks, SDKs, and developer tools; decide what is worth adopting and what is not.
  • Run a tight prototype-to-production loop: ship fast, measure, iterate, and kill what does not work.

AI Engineering & Automation

  • Design and build AI agents and agentic workflows — including multi-agent orchestration, tool/function calling, MCP integrations, and RAG pipelines.
  • Build AI-powered internal tools that augment specific workflows (engineering, sales, support, operations, compliance).
  • Define patterns, guardrails, and reference architectures for how AI is built and deployed inside Nerdio.

Full-Stack Development & Platform

  • Build and maintain full-stack internal web applications end-to-end — typically TypeScript / Node.js on the backend, modern React or similar on the frontend, PostgreSQL or equivalent for data.
  • Deploy and operate applications on Microsoft Azure (App Service, Container Apps, Functions, ACR, Key Vault, Entra ID).
  • Own the CI/CD story: GitHub Actions pipelines, environment management, secret handling, and release hygiene for all internal apps.

Data Warehouse Stewardship

  • Share ownership of Nerdio's internal data warehouse with the data engineers — including architectural direction, data quality, access patterns, and integration with downstream AI and reporting use cases.
  • Ensure the warehouse remains a reliable, well-governed foundation for analytics, dashboards, and AI-driven internal products.

Team Leadership, Enablement & Coaching

  • Act as technical lead for the Corporate Development team: set technical direction, review key designs and pull requests, and make final calls on architectural trade-offs.
  • Coach team members and cross-functional colleagues on effective use of AI development tools — Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, agentic frameworks — including prompting patterns, workflow design, and when not to use them.
  • Run internal training sessions, demos, and office hours that raise the AI and automation literacy of the wider company.
  • Identify and advocate for individual development opportunities within the team; help team members grow into more senior technical roles.

Internal Evangelism & Idea Generation

  • Act as an internal salesperson for the Corporate Development team: actively promote the team's work across Nerdio so that other teams know what exists, adopt it, and request more.
  • Generate and champion new ideas for internal products, automations, and AI-powered tools that help Nerdio operate more efficiently and grow as a business.
  • Build relationships across departments (Sales, Product, Engineering, Support, Operations, Finance) to continuously surface pain points worth solving and opportunities worth exploring.
  • Present Corporate Development initiatives, prototypes, and results to leadership and the wider company in a way that builds momentum and secures ongoing investment.

Security Awareness

  • Maintain a working knowledge of application and cloud security (identity, secrets, data handling, supply chain) and factor it into every design — collaborating with the security function where deeper expertise is needed. Security is a shared concern for this role, not its primary focus.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering or equivalent technical experience. This team operates at near-100% AI-driven development — it is perfectly acceptable (and expected) that most of the code is written by AI. What matters is that you deeply understand what you are building and the architecture behind it: you must be able to read, critique, and reason about the code, own the design, and spot when the AI is wrong.
  • Strong full-stack development skills across TypeScript/JavaScript and at least one scripting language (Python, PowerShell, or Bash).
  • Demonstrated experience designing and shipping AI-powered applications — ideally including agentic systems, tool use / MCP, RAG, or LLM-driven automation — not just prompt-level use of chat tools.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure as a deployment target, including App Service/Container Apps/Functions, networking, and identity (Entra ID).
  • Strong CI/CD discipline using GitHub (or comparable) — authoring and maintaining pipelines, managing environments, and enforcing release quality.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and data warehousing concepts; comfortable collaborating with data engineers on warehouse design and data quality.
  • Proven track record of leading small, senior technical teams — either as a team lead, tech lead, or principal engineer with lead responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; able to explain technical decisions to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with modern agent frameworks and SDKs (Claude Agents SDK, Microsoft Agents SDK).
  • Experience building internal developer platforms or productivity tooling inside a software company.
  • Exposure to the MSP and/or Microsoft cloud ecosystem (AVD, Windows 365, Intune, Microsoft Graph).
  • Background in DevOps / platform engineering (Docker, Infrastructure-as-Code, observability).
  • Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001) at an engineering level.

Key Competencies

Hands-on leader

Sets direction and ships code; does not retreat into slideware.

Builder's mindset

Prefers a working prototype to a perfect document.

Taste in tooling

Can quickly tell which new AI tools are real leverage and which are hype.

Force multiplier

Measurably makes the people around them faster and more capable.

Pragmatism

Chooses battle-tested primitives over trendy abstractions when stakes are real.

Ownership

Takes end-to-end responsibility for team output, not just their own work.

Internal salesmanship

Comfortable pitching ideas, demoing work, and building buy-in across the company; actively creates demand for what the team builds.

What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months

3 months

Fully ramped on the Corporate Development stack, internal applications, and data warehouse; able to lead architectural decisions independently.

6 months

Shipped at least two internal AI-powered tools or automations that are measurably adopted across Nerdio and deliver tangible productivity or revenue impact.

9 months

Established a clear, documented way of working for the team — including prototyping cadence, review rituals, deployment standards, and a shared view on AI tooling.

12 months

Stabilized and improved the data warehouse; raised the AI and automation capability of the wider company; recognized internally as the go-to technical authority on how Nerdio builds with AI.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
