Position Summary:    

This dynamic role is integral to the sales process, supporting both new and existing clients and athenahealth’s Sales team, all sales divisions. The Solution Design Manager is the primary pre-sale teammate responsible for articulating the value (ROI) of athenahealth’s products and services. This role requires approximately 70% travel annually. The Solution Design Manager will report directly to the Client Solutions Group Director, playing a critical role in connecting business needs with innovative technology solutions. 

 

Team Summary:    

The Client Solutions Group (CSG) is integral to athenahealth’s success, working collaboratively with Sales and Customer Success teams to formulate and execute strategic initiatives for prospects and clients. This team conducts thorough due diligence to define minimum business requirements spanning information management strategies, patient engagement, and operational workflows (both clinical and revenue cycle). The group is responsible for crafting and delivering compelling presentations and proposals that emphasize athenahealth’s distinct value propositions. With accountability for setting achievable ROI expectations, the SD fosters partnerships that align technology innovation with business outcomes, ensuring client goals are met effectively and efficiently. 

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:   

  • Prepare and present formal presentations with a goal to articulate value (ROI) of athenahealth’s products and services 

  • Lead on-site assessments via shadowing and interviews of key client staff/leaders; create and present the final presentation (and/or collateral) back to the client 

  • Analyze business and healthcare economics and technology-enabled processes to deliver insightful recommendations 

  • Manage complex projects, ensuring organizational efficiency and timely delivery 

  • Influence stakeholders by providing well-founded rationale and building consensus around proposed solutions 

  • Travel up to 70% annually to engage with prospects, clients and internal teams 

  • Must be willing to work and maintain availability during standard business hours in Mountain Standard Time (MST) or Pacific Standard Time (PST) 

 

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Product, and Customer Success teams to align goals and strategies 

  • Monitor industry trends and competitive landscape to inform deal strategy and insight 

  • Contribute to team and organizational knowledge-sharing to improve overall effectiveness 

  • Participate in continuous learning and professional development activities 

  • Assist in refining processes and methodologies to enhance the Solution Design function 

  • Support leadership with ad hoc projects and initiatives as needed 

 

Expected Education & Experience 

  • BS/BA degree required; advanced degree preferred 

  • Demonstrated success in high-level consultative sales processes  

  • Proven experience developing and maintaining strong relationships with C-level executives 

  • Strong project management and organizational skills 

  • Excellent communication skills, including formal presentation and business writing 

  • Aptitude for understanding business economics and technology-enabled processes 

  • Flexibility and enthusiasm for travel up to 70% annually 


Expected Compensation

$130,000 - $220,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.  Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
