About the Role

The Solution Architect, Legal Billing is a member of Litify Professional Services who leads the time, billing, and financial side of client implementations. You bring a formal accounting background and software implementation skills to design and deliver time entry, expense tracking, billing, and collections workflows for law firms on the Litify platform. You work directly with firm billing teams, finance staff, and partners. You learn how they capture time and costs and turn them into paid invoices today, then translate that into a sound Litify design and own it through go-live.

You will:
  • Lead discovery with firm billing and finance teams to map how they capture time and expenses, review pre-bills, issue invoices, and collect payment.
  • Design billing setups on Litify and Salesforce: timekeeper and client-matter rates, rate hierarchies and overrides, fee arrangements (hourly, flat fee, contingency, and hybrid), and invoice templates.
  • Configure time and expense capture, including activity and task codes, hard and soft costs, cost recovery, and markups.
  • Build pre-bill review and approval workflows, including write-ups, write-downs, and billing adjustments.
  • Set up e-billing for clients that require it, including LEDES file formats, UTBMS codes, and outside counsel billing guidelines.
  • Design AR and collections processes, including payments, retainers, applying trust funds to invoices, and client statements.
  • Deliver billing and financial reporting: WIP, realization, timekeeper utilization, aged AR, and collections.
  • Plan and support migration of open WIP, unbilled costs, and AR balances from legacy billing systems, with reconciliation to the source.
  • Configure and test the solution, working with Litify developers and other Solution Architects where custom build is needed.
  • Run workshops, UAT, training, and go-live support with client billing, finance, and operations staff.
  • Keep project status, risks, and documentation current.
  • Feed field learnings back to Product and Professional Services to improve the billing offering.
You have (required):

Listed in priority order.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA license or CPA-eligible status preferred
  2. Legal billing experience: 3+ years of hands-on work in law firm billing or finance, or at a legal time and billing software company, with working knowledge of all of the following: time and expense entry, rate management, fee arrangements, pre-bill review and adjustments, invoicing, LEDES and UTBMS e-billing, client billing guidelines, AR and collections, WIP and realization reporting, and trust accounting basics.
  3. Software implementation and technical experience: 3+ years implementing or consulting on time, billing, or financial software. Covers discovery, requirements, configuration, data migration of WIP, unbilled time and costs, and AR, UAT, and go-live. Comfortable with SQL or ETL tools for loading and validating financial data, and with how systems integrate.
  4. Client delivery: runs workshops with firm billing teams, finance staff, and partners, presents clearly to executives, and manages several projects at once.
You have (nice-to-have):
  1. Salesforce experience: implementation or admin work on Salesforce; Salesforce Administrator certification.
  2. Accounting Seed or Certinia (formerly FinancialForce): a major plus. Hands-on implementation of a Salesforce-native accounting or billing product.
  3. Experience implementing or supporting legal time and billing systems such as Elite 3E, Aderant, Centerbase, or Juris.
  4. Experience with e-billing platforms such as Legal Tracker, TyMetrix 360, or BillBlast.
  5. Experience with Litify or another legal practice management platform.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
