You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Software Support Engineer to join our Customer Service and Support team as part of our Humanoid product ecosystem. As a Software Support Engineer at Apptronik, you will be responsible for daily robot and software system operations, verify repairs and maintenance, and work hands-on with robot hardware to validate performance and reliability. This role is primarily focused on maintaining high uptime on robotic systems, documenting performance, tracking reliability, and training other team members. You will work closely with cross-functional teams providing feedback on how to implement this new system, improve the design, and integrate it with various other technologies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute tests designed by Software and Systems Engineers to validate system functionality and performance.
- Perform all software support activities related to system bring-up, troubleshooting, emergent service, and preventative maintenance.
- Perform in-depth root cause analysis, collaborating with software development engineers and field team to develop and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Document system performance, root cause analysis, and suggestions for improvement for all related system activities.
- Collect and analyze data to support iterative improvements and refinements of product design.
- Collaborate with software, project, and engineering teams to support the design and implementation of scalable and resilient systems.
- Champion best practices in customer support, ensuring high standards of field service, scalability, and reliability.
- Assist with demonstrations of robotic platforms for marketing and outreach purposes.
- Travel to customer sites as necessary to perform system repairs, maintenance, and training.
SKILLS and REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to present to company senior leadership and customer representatives.
- Problem-solving in high pressure situations at customer facilities against stringent SLA’s.
- Be an agent of change, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in Bash and Linux.
- Ability to work alone or in a cross-functional team setting.
- Collaboration with product and engineering on Design for Serviceability analyses.
- International travel likely; passport highly desired.
- Role will be assigned primarily to Austin HQ but travel up to 50% may be required at times.
- (Preferred) Proficiency with C++ and Python.
- (Preferred) Understanding of networking concepts.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of software engineering experience (preferred).
- Familiarity with issue ticketing, reporting, and tracking with Jira and Salesforce.
- 2+ years of experience in testing, including unit, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- 2+ years of experience enforcing and improving code coverage.
- Experience tracking down challenging bugs, such as memory leaks and concurrency issues.
- Proven experience in a customer-facing role.
- (Preferred) 2+ years of experience with ROS and ROS concepts.
- (Preferred) 2+ years of experience with containerization technologies.
- (Preferred) Experience operating in a VR environment is a plus.
- (Preferred) Familiarity with Unity or other video game engines and SteamVR is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
- Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
- Hearing and speech to communicate.
