THE PURPOSE:

The Software Safety & Security Architect will be part of the Software Architecture Team within the Software Engineering Division. The team works with other teams to agree the underpinning standards and requirements to ensure a safe and secure system. This includes acting as the expert resource to educate the rest of the company on the requirements for safe and secure software.

Ultimately, we will design reliable, scalable, real-time (or near-real time) applications that make Hyperloop One a reality. We are seeking candidates with various levels of experience to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Los Angeles facility. 

THE ROLE:

  • Develop, implement, and optimize the software safety and security processes.
  • Create and prototype design guidelines, requirements and protocols for security in all areas of the software system.
    • Includes, but is not limited to: access control, identity management, encryption, signing and network segregation.
  • Keep a customer focused mindset, prioritizing developer productivity and application uptime.
  • Champion processes and procedures across the organization.
  • Communicate, present, and defend opinions concerning physical and logical architecture in a productive and diplomatic fashion.
  • Help maintain both agile and waterfall environments with safety critical and safety related systems.

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into issues and products as required.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language and visuals.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in safety critical software systems (for example D078 / ISO26262 / etc.) OR experience in cyber security.
  • Background as a software architect.
  • Fluency in one or more object-oriented programming language.
  • Experience in developing and coding web systems and algorithms.
  • Understanding of SOLID coding principles and software life-cycles.
  • Understanding of performance tools, metrics and benchmarks.
  • Working proficiency and excellent communication skills in verbal and written English.
  • Comfortable with Linux.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • BS, MS, or PhD Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Solid experience in product security development or research.
  • Solid experience developing in an object-oriented programing language.
  • Experience building or architecting safety-critical or high-reliability systems.
  • Experience building or architecting soft or near real-time software systems.
  • Experience with a variety of programming languages.
  • Interest and ability to learn new languages as needed.
  • Comfort with agile methodologies.
  • Proficiency with modern security practices.
  • Experience with automated testing practices; unit, integration and end-to-end.
  • Experience with source control. (Git, SVN, etc.)
