As a Software Reliability & Platform Engineer, you’ll bring a developer’s mindset to reliability, infrastructure, and deployment. This multi-hat role combines software development, DevOps, and SRE responsibilities — ideal for an experienced developer who loves building tools, automating systems, and improving reliability through code. You’ll help Renewed Vision design and scale the next generation of our platform and web infrastructure, empowering teams to ship fast and confidently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop tools and automation that improve reliability, performance, and developer experience — using languages like Python, PHP, or Go.
  • Design and implement infrastructure for scalability and resilience across AWS, Fly.io, and related cloud services.
  • Build developer-facing systems: internal APIs, build pipelines, CI/CD automation, observability tooling, and service orchestration.
  • Instrument and monitor applications to detect customer-facing symptoms first, surfacing root causes through dashboards and metrics.
  • Partner with developers to build services that are secure, observable, and easy to deploy.
  • Define Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and metrics that balance uptime and velocity.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortems — turning lessons learned into permanent fixes.
  • Promote security best practices across builds, deployments, and code reviews.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to guide engineering practices and improve the entire software delivery lifecycle.
Minimum Requirements
  • 4+ years of professional experience in software development with exposure to DevOps, SRE, or systems engineering.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages (PHP, Python, Go, TypeScript, etc.).
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Fly.io, or DigitalOcean.
  • Solid understanding of infrastructure-as-code and automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, Docker, or equivalents).
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies.
  • Comfortable balancing fast iteration with long-term maintainability and reliability.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Able to work Eastern Standard Time hours (9am–5pm).
Nice to Haves
  • Experience with Laravel or other PHP-based frameworks in production.
  • Familiarity with Google SRE principles and adapting them pragmatically to smaller teams.
  • Interest in developer experience (DX) — improving build, test, and deploy tooling for engineers.
  • Exposure to penetration testing coordination, security automation, and secrets management.
  • Knowledge of Renewed Vision products (ProPresenter, PVP, ProVideoServer, Scoreboard) and how they operate in production environments.
Why This Role Matters

Renewed Vision is growing its platform and modernizing its infrastructure. This role will shape the systems that enable our developers to move quickly without sacrificing quality. You’ll combine developer empathy with a deep understanding of reliability and scalability — building the foundation that powers live productions around the world.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
