Owns the spacecraft software release process, coordinating plans, testing, quality standards, documentation, release artifacts, metrics, and cross-functional engineering delivery. The role manages release schedules and process improvements while using technical knowledge of build systems, CI/CD, test infrastructure, static analysis, code coverage, and software variants to ensure reliable releases across hardware platforms.
As a Software Release Manager at Impulse, you will own the software release process for our spacecraft software. You will be the person who ensures that the right software ships to the right systems at the right time, with the confidence that it works. This includes insuring that the software releases contain the functionality needed for the release, that it meets the quality standards, is adequately tested on the appropriate test platforms, and contains the documentation required by our customers. This role is process and schedule focused but technically grounded. You won't be writing production code, but you need to understand the build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and test infrastructure well enough to diagnose issues, drive improvements, and hold engineering teams accountable to release standards.
Responsibilities
- Define and manage release plans aligned with program integration milestones
- Work with software developers and test teams to track software development progress towards the release and ensure adequate test coverage and positive test results
- Manage release artifacts including build packages, release notes, known issues, and supporting documentation for internal and customer consumption
- Follow, enforce, and improve our software development process documentation
- Define comprehensive test plans, including functional, integration, system, and user acceptance tests
- Monitor, configure, and manage static analysis, code coverage, and other quality tools
- Define metrics and dashboards for monitoring software quality and release process
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience in release management, release engineering, or a related technical program management role
- Demonstrated experience owning software release processes for products with multiple hardware platforms and software variants
- Working knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines, build automation, and release versioning
- Demonstrated experience writing test plans and tracking the results
- Demonstrated proficiency in Python, C, or C++ languages
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Proficiency in scripting for automation and tooling
- Demonstrated experience with configuration management and software traceability
- Demonstrated experience implementing or managing software-in-the-loop (SITL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) test environments
- Demonstrated experience with C++, static analysis tools, and software build tools
- Demonstrated experience coordinating releases across engineering, integration and test, operations, and customer-facing teams
- Demonstrated experience with the risk management framework (RMF)
