About the team:You will join the firmware QA test team that is fully embedded within Software Engineering. We handle all types of testing projects for our Wireless products, from nightly feature tests across the latest firmware images to performance testing of all kinds. We run large-scale testing to measure how small changes could impact on our performance and reliability. Our products are used in over a million networks and our customers rely on our products to serve tens of millions of people. With the large footprint that we have, quality is our highest priority. We are looking for a test engineer who is as passionate about quality as we are. Your contributions will make a direct impact on the success of our business. Meraki engineers put the customer experience first, own projects from beginning to end, and are empowered to make impactful decisions.
You will get to work with firmware and automation engineers to scale wireless LAN testbeds comprised of access points and Wi-Fi clients from the ground up that has the ability to change topologies on the fly. You will work on our latest MR hardware through all stages of their development life cycle. Your work will feed directly into our release process transitioning to software releases for over 5 million MR access points worldwide. You will maximize testing to increase reliability and performance across Meraki MR device firmware. Additionally, you will work closely with our product & development teams to execute tests on both automated and manual testbeds.
What you'll do:- Designing and maintaining lab topologies and documentation
- Procuring, racking, and stacking lab equipment
- Identify and replace failed equipment in a timely manner
- Configuring and maintaining high uptime of all network switches, routers, wireless access points, servers, firewalls, PDUs, and Ixia traffic generators, etc.
- Provisioning and configuring hosts with various types of operating systems
- Responding to network outages and performing root cause analysis
- Implementing automation scripts for system provisioning, back-ups, and other repetitive tasks in the lab
- Maintaining software security and vulnerability patches
- Set up and maintain on-site dev equipment with remote console, power control
- Supporting our firmware engineers in executing test cases, understanding test results, reproducing and investigating bugs
- Collaborating with functional and automation engineers to scale, improve and maintain testbed operations
- Working with third-party vendors to test bug fixes and new driver patches
- Technical degree or equivalent experience with a strong foundation in the fundamentals of computer networking
- Knowledge of core network protocols like TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, etc.
- Knowledge of 802.11 wireless standards, channels, and specs on 2.4GHz and 5GHz
- Experience in analyzing Wireshark packet captures (wired and wireless) to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of issues
- Experience in designing and executing manual and system-level test plans
- Have effective communication skills and proven ability to collaborate with others
- You have experience in product performance testing or QA
- Experience in configuring wireless routers or access points
- Work experience with 802.11 wireless protocols and switching network technologies
- Experience in working with Jenkins and Jira

U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings.
Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday (for non-exempt employees), plus a day off for their birthday. Non-Exempt new hires accrue up to 16 days of vacation time off each year, at a rate of 4.92 hours per pay period. Exempt new hires participate in Cisco’s flexible Vacation Time Off policy, which does not place a defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use, but is subject to availability and some business limitations. All new hires are eligible for Sick Time Off subject to Cisco’s Sick Time Off Policy and will have eighty (80) hours of sick time off provided on their hire date and on January 1st of each year thereafter. Up to 80 hours of unused sick time will be carried forward from one calendar year to the next such that the maximum number of sick time hours an employee may have available is 160 hours. Employees in Illinois have a unique time off program designed specifically with local requirements in mind. All employees also have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community.
Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:
.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;
1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;
1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.
For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
