biBerk is seeking a seasoned and strategic Software Product Owner to lead the evolution of our Commercial Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance systems. This role is pivotal in bridging the gap between business operations and technology, ensuring our systems and solutions reflect the complexity and regulatory nuances of the insurance landscape across all 50 states and Washington D.C.

The ideal candidate will bring 7+ years of experience in commercial insurance, with a strong actuarial foundation and deep expertise in Workers Compensation, Commercial Auto, Business Owner Policies (BOP), General Liability, and Errors & Omissions (E&O). This individual will drive product strategy, regulatory alignment, and system enhancements, working closely with actuarial, underwriting, claims, compliance, and technology teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Strategy & Ownership: Define and own the roadmap for Commercial P&C products, ensuring alignment with business goals, regulatory requirements, and market trends.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams, translating complex insurance concepts into actionable system requirements.

  • Regulatory Expertise: Maintain deep knowledge of state-specific insurance rules and ensure product compliance across all jurisdictions.

  • Requirements Management: Develop and prioritize user stories, business rules, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with Business Systems Analysts and developers.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate workshops and working sessions with actuarial, underwriting, claims, and compliance teams to gather insights and validate product direction.

  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor product performance and user feedback to identify opportunities for optimization and innovation.

  • Documentation & Communication: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of product features, workflows, and regulatory mappings.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Insurance, Business, or related field; advanced degree or actuarial credentials (ASA, ACAS, FCAS) preferred.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Commercial P&C insurance, with demonstrated expertise in product development and regulatory compliance.

  • Strong understanding of one or more of the following: Workers Compensation, Commercial Auto, BOP, General Liability, and E&O insurance products.

  • Proven experience navigating regulatory environments across a majority of all US jurisdictions.

  • Familiarity with insurance systems, data structures, and business analysis methodologies.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience working in Agile environments and using tools like Jira or Azure DevOps.

Preferred Experience:

  • CPCU or agent license

  • Strategic thinker with a passion for solving complex business problems.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.

  • Experience with digital transformation initiatives in the insurance industry.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided.  The salary range for this position is $145,000- $175,000 per year.  Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
