For this role specifically, we are seeking individuals to help support high-impact, civic tech within the federal government.

We are seeking a Software / Machine Learning Engineer to support high-impact federal initiatives focused on building modern, user-centric, and data-driven systems. You’ll work on cross-functional teams to develop full-stack applications, evaluate emerging technologies, and build proof-of-concepts in machine learning, AI, and cloud environments. This role blends hands-on engineering with opportunities for technical leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement scalable software solutions and machine learning prototypes
  • Analyze user needs to customize or optimize software
  • Evaluate new or emerging technologies and communicate their benefits and risks
  • Lead or support the adoption of new tools, frameworks, and practices across projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Support CI/CD workflows, containerized deployments, and secure cloud architectures
  • May mentor and supervise software developers.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and 5+ years of professional experience in software development and machine learning, or 9+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
  • Proficiency in languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Ruby on Rails
  • Experience with front-end frameworks (e.g., ReactJS) and back-end technologies
  • Familiarity with databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL), web servers (e.g., Apache, Jenkins), and RESTful APIs
  • Hands-on experience with ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and data libraries (e.g., pandas)
  • Hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to quickly adapt to new technologies

Nice to Have Skills

  • Experience with Amazon Bedrock and/or Amazon SageMaker
  • Experience with R / RShiny
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • People or technical team management experience
  • Experience supporting software systems in the public sector or federal government
  • Interest in civic tech, digital services, and user-centered design

Salary Information:

We are committed to offering a competitive salary for this position, with an estimated range of $120K to $145K annually. Please note that this range is intended to provide a general idea of what to expect. The final offer may vary based on experience, skills, and other factors.
