About Voltus
Voltus is a leading company for Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). Our mission is to be the platform that fulfills the promise of the energy transition. The Voltus platform connects any DER to any energy market across the US and Canada, providing flexibility, reliability, and resilience to the grid while generating revenue for our partners.

We hire teammates who are bright, gritty, and good and who have a genuine passion for delivering a cleaner energy future and for working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

The Role
This Software Engineer position is for candidates with 2+ years of full-time professional engineering experience who are eager to build scalable software for Voltus. You'll join a fully remote team tackling complex energy industry challenges, collaborating with experienced engineers on our modern tech stack, and contributing to core systems that decarbonize the grid. Your work could involve building core APIs, designing data pipelines, or creating customer interfaces.

Technologies We Use
Our technology stack is primarily Python-based. Some of the specific tech we use includes FastAPI, Postgres, Delta Lake, Dagster, and Clickhouse. We run our services using Docker and the HashiCorp stack on AWS.

Responsibilities

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code to support the team’s projects.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of new features and services.
  • Collaborate with your team to troubleshoot and resolve issues in our production environment.
  • Participate in code reviews to learn from and contribute to the team's shared knowledge.
  • Work with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2+ years as a full-time software engineer, not including internships or co-op programs.
  • Foundational programming skills in a backend language like Python or Go.
  • A strong desire to learn and grow as a software engineer.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • A genuine passion for our mission to create a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
  • Authorization to work in the US or Canada without sponsorship

**Please include a link to your GitHub account in your application (in the “links” section). Applications without a GitHub account will not be considered**

Please note that at this time, we do not sponsor visas or transfers for new hires. Voltus teammates need to be authorized to work from their home location (in the US or Canada, unless otherwise indicated on the role description).

Additionally, while Voltus is an all-remote workplace, we have limitations on where employees are able to work for regulatory and security reasons. We expect that Voltans are working primarily from their home country. Working while traveling to other countries must be approved as per our Global Remote Travel Policy.

At Voltus, we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer because we recognize that a diverse organization begins with a diverse candidate pool. This means we do not tolerate discrimination of any kind and are committed to providing equal employment opportunities regardless of your gender identity, race, nationality, religion, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, disability status, or marital status.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
