As an Ontada engineer, you will work towards our core goals in areas such as Clinical Informatics and Common Data Modeling, Clinical Data abstraction, our First-in-KLAS electronic health records system, and other areas of oncology technology. This position relies on cross-team collaboration and work, as an integral part of clinical data solutions.
Position Summary:
We are looking for a driven, enthusiastic, agile full-stack software engineer to be part of the team that is transforming the fight against cancer and improving the lives of patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write effective, scalable, reusable, performant, and testable code, and clear documentation
- Perform code reviews to ensure code quality
- Work collaboratively with team members including offshore and share knowledge.
- Participate in architecture, design and planning sessions
- Help ensure applications maintain seamless performance
- Follow security and data protection coding standards within PHI (Protected Health Information) environment
- Stay abreast of modern technologies and practices, innovate, and collaborate
- Agile/Scrum development experience

Minimum Requirements:
- Degree or equivalent and 4+ years of relevant experience.
Required Technical Skillset:
Front End:
- Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript
- Strong experience with React and modern front-end development practices
- Responsive design and cross-browser compatibility
- Familiarity with front-end testing frameworks
Back End:
- Expertise in Java Microservices using:
- Spring Framework
- Spring Boot
- Spring Batch
- Development and integration of RESTful services
- Understanding of authentication and authorization mechanisms (OAuth2, JWT)
Data Access & Storage:
- Experience with PostgreSQL for relational data
- Familiarity with Redis for caching and session management
- Experience with MongoDB for document-based storage
- Ability to design and optimize database schemas and queries
Nice to Have:
- Experience with FHIR standard integrations (e.g., SMART on FHIR)
- Familiarity with HL7 standards (e.g., HL7 v2, CDA)
- Background in healthcare or health tech domains
- CI/CD pipeline experience and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Self-motivated with a passion for continuous learning
Critical Skills
- 4+ years' experience in Java development
- 2+ years using Java frameworks such as Spring / Spring Boot.
- Experience with database structures including SQL queries and schemas (preferably PostgreSQL)
- Working with offshore teams.
- Familiarity with front-end technologies and language including JavaScript, TypeScript and React libraries.
Working Conditions
- Primary Location – Work at home, US based (limited locations)
- Occasional travel (1x or 2x/year) to onsite meetings
