The Software Engineer II contributes to software development by applying secure engineering principles, collaborating with teams, and utilizing AI tools throughout the SDLC for improving code quality and efficiency.
As part of the Cox Automotive family, Inspections and Imaging is responsible for providing innovative technical solutions supporting wholesale and non-wholesale workflows. Our inspection solutions enable a vehicle's condition to be documented and graded, allowing buyers, sellers and financial institutions the critical data needed to make informed decisions. Primary technologies include TypeScript, Java, Node.js, React, Postgres, Rest APIs, AWS and Claude Code, among others.

As part of a corporate wide AI transformation initiative, this role will also incorporate the responsible use of AI-assisted development tools to streamline coding, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation activities across the SDLC.

Compensation:
Compensation includes a base salary in the range of $89,400.00 - $134,000.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Primary Duties and Key Responsibilities
- Contribute technical and procedural expertise to support team development efforts across assigned applications or system components, including appropriate use of AI-assisted tools during daily engineering tasks.
- Participate in design and development discussions, using both personal analysis and AI-supported exploration to help clarify technical options and desired outcomes.
- Write high-quality code along with unit, integration, and system tests for business-critical components, using AI assistance to increase test coverage and reduce repetitive work while validating all AI-generated output.
- Ensure quality, performance, security, and adherence to specifications for assigned feature development and adjacent system interactions, leveraging AI to analyze code quality or identify potential issues.
- Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis by combining traditional debugging techniques with AI-guided investigation to accelerate discovery and remediation.
- Contribute to the modernization of legacy components through refactoring, migration planning, and use of AI tools to analyze existing patterns and propose alternatives.
- Apply secure coding practices and use AI-enabled scanning or analysis tools to help identify vulnerabilities or improvement opportunities.
- Participate in identifying software, server, or network bottlenecks by gathering diagnostics and evaluating potential fixes, including the use of AI tools to explore optimization options.
Required Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
- Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without current or future sponsorship. No OPT, CPT, STEM/OPT or visa sponsorship now or in future.
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 2 years of experience in a related field, or equivalent combinations such as a master's degree and up to 2 years of experience, or 14 years of experience with no degree.
- Experience in developing with TypeScript, Java, Node.js, React.
- Hands-on experience developing software using modern programming languages, frameworks, and cloud technologies.
- Ability to evaluate technical requirements, follow architectural patterns, and contribute to maintainable and scalable implementations.
- Skilled in building partnerships, driving innovation, focusing on execution, and striving for excellence in engineering work.
- Communicate and explain engineering concepts and solutions to team members with less technical experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with or strong familiarity developing REST APIs using an AWS serverless framework.
- AWS certifications (Developer, Solutions Architect, or DevOps) highly preferred.
