The User Profile team is the backbone of our data-driven personalization efforts, responsible for ingesting, processing, and serving millions of user data points daily. As a Software Engineer on this team, you’ll help build and maintain the high-scale systems that form the single source of truth for user profiles, powering core products, advanced segmentation, and personalization. You will collaborate with other teams to unlock new sources of user data, support machine learning initiatives, and ensure the quality and intelligence of our data platform continues to grow.

What You’ll Accomplish

• Design, build, and optimize robust backend systems for high-scale data ingestion, processing, and serving of user profiles and attributes
• Develop and maintain APIs and streaming data pipelines that aggregate user data from multiple sources, supporting both internal and external integrations
• Own and enhance user subscription lifecycle management features (e.g., opt-in/opt-out flows), ensuring reliability and compliance
• Collaborate with product, data, and ML teams to deliver high-quality user attributes used for segmentation, personalization, and as inputs to ML models
• Build and maintain big data processing pipelines for use cases such as revenue attribution and location tracking
• Identify and implement improvements to data quality and system performance
• Support the rollout of new data sources and integrations, expanding the breadth and depth of user profile data

Your Expertise

• 4+ years of professional experience as a backend software engineer
• Experience overseeing data ingestion and processing, and streaming technologies
• Experience working with user or event data at scale
• Strong programming skills in Java or similar backend languages
• Understanding of system performance, scalability, and observability in high-traffic environments
• Strong communication skills and a product-oriented mindset—able to understand the “why” behind technical work and collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners
• Demonstrated ownership and initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement and driving them from conception to implementation

Nice to Haves

• Direct experience with Java/Spring stack
• Experience with streaming technologies (Pulsar) and DynamoDB
• Experience with Spark, Iceberg, or other big data processing frameworks
• Experience supporting personalization products
• Familiarity with subscription lifecycle management, revenue attribution, or behavioral analytics
• Experience integrating with third-party data sources
• Background in high-scale environments (mid-size or larger companies, or startups with significant scaling challenges)

What We Use

• Our infrastructure runs primarily in Kubernetes hosted in AWS’s EKS
• Infrastructure tooling includes Istio, Datadog, Terraform, CloudFlare, and Helm
• Our backend is Java / Spring Boot microservices, built with Gradle, coupled with things like DynamoDB, Kinesis, AirFlow, Postgres, Planetscale, and Redis, hosted via AWS
• Our frontend is built with React and TypeScript, and uses best practices like GraphQL, Storybook, Radix UI, Vite, esbuild, and Playwright
• Our automation is driven by custom and open source machine learning models, lots of data and built with Python, Metaflow, HuggingFace 🤗, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Pandas

- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $126,480 - $180,000 annually + equity + benefits

- Equity is a substantial part of the total compensation package

- Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location
