Pay Range: $85k - $100k w/ 10% annual bonus

Core communication hours: 9am-6pm ET / 8am - 5pm CT / 8am -5pm MT / 7am - 5pm PT


Job Summary: 

This is your chance to step into a full-stack web-application engineering role and immediately drive impact across our entire enterprise platform. You won't just be coding; you'll be an architectural driver. We're looking for an engineer who embraces the latest technologies and design patterns to solve complex business challenges, always maintaining a vision for the entire technology platform. You'll be a key player in the complete application lifecycle—from the moment an idea is generated and reviewed, through technical design, and into final deployment. If you're ready to master a diverse tech stack and translate bold ideas into robust, scalable reality, this is where you start building your engineering legacy.


Primary Duties Including % of time:

  • 70% - Writes code, debugs and performs unit testing in all application layers and data access layer in accordance with RoadRunner’s technical standards
  • 10% - Participates in code reviews with manager to ensure accurate code and design techniques are being used and to further technical knowledge
  • 20% - Assist in the full software lifecycle activities including project planning, requirement analysis, design, development, quality assurance and documentation

  • Reports To:   Software Engineering Manager
  • Direct Reports:  None
  • Interacts with:  Software Engineers, Product Management and Product Design Teams

Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency in full stack web development.
  • At least 1 year of professional experience with Ruby on Rails and with a modern Frontend Framework (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue) using JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Basic understanding of database design and querying, including knowledge of SQL (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • Strong sense of curiosity and openness to using different technologies and continuing to strengthen their technical skill set.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, ability to act without having the whole picture using sound judgment and strong decision-making skills.  
  • Passionate about business results and quality, with a strong sense of accountability, metrics and ownership.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to grasp the tactical details.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, multi-task and effectively prioritize conflicting assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate at all levels and across all functions of the organization.
  • Proven ability to organize/manage multiple priorities coupled with the flexibility to quickly adapt to ever changing business needs.

Our Interview Process: What to Expect

We aim for a thorough and transparent hiring process. Here is a step-by-step breakdown of how we evaluate candidates:

1. Application Review
  • Timeline: Please allow 2-3 weeks for a full review of your application and materials. We carefully assess every submission.

2. Recruiter Phone Screen
  • Format: A brief, conversational call with a recruiter.

  • Focus: This is an opportunity to discuss your background, introduce you to our company culture, and ensure the role is a good fit for your career goals.

3. Technical Assessment (Woven)
  • Format: If you move forward, you'll be asked to complete a Woven assessment.

  • Focus: This step helps us evaluate your practical skills and problem-solving approach in a real-world context.

4. Meeting the Software Engineering Manager
  • Format: A 30-minute virtual meeting via Zoom.

  • Focus: This is a chance for our Software Engineering Manager to learn about your technical philosophy and for you to ask high-level questions about our technology strategy and vision.

5. Team Deep Dive (Final Interview)
  • Format: A 1.5-hour virtual interview via Zoom with members of the team.

  • Focus: This final step is an in-depth discussion where you'll meet future colleagues, explore specific job responsibilities, and dive deeper into technical scenarios and teamwork dynamics.
