As a Software Engineer, you will build user-facing products, improve site performance, and contribute to open-source culture while working in a collaborative, remote environment.

Location: Remote

Orca’s vision is to build a financial system that puts people first. We envision a future where the majority of global financial transactions are driven by CLAMMs and other Decentralized Finance (DeFi) products. Our ambition reaches beyond becoming the leading provider of financial primitives in crypto—we aim to reshape the foundation of finance itself. We are building the next NASDAQ. If you are someone who is tired of just working another job and wants to build something meaningful, then we invite you to join our team.

As a team of talented engineers, Orca’s contributors are comfortable working around the stack but tend to be experts in a particular area. Orca is looking for a like-minded generalist who enjoys building out great user-facing products, talking to developers, and has a sharp eye for design details.

What you’ll do

  • Build delightful user-facing products, whether it’s a TypeScript SDK, stats and price API, or brand new interface.

  • Create compelling user experiences with a sharp eye for design details.

  • Make complex interactions and animations look easy and seamless to both end users and fellow engineers.

  • Maintain tooling and best practices for testing, package management, and CI/CD.

  • Improve site speed, performance, and reliability.

  • Contribute to an open-source culture and process.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven track record: You’ve worked on performant, user-facing features at scale, ideally in finance or adjacent industry.

  • Balanced mindset: You’re comfortable working independently in an async environment, but also enjoy coming together to collaborate as a team. You’re passionate about certain technologies and patterns, but also recognize there are trade-offs in different scenarios. You don’t see everything in absolutes, and identify the underlying dimensions to make decisions.

  • Design sense: While you’re capable of creating “pixel perfect” interfaces, you’re equally comfortable (and maybe even prefer) filling in the details and making design suggestions yourself.

  • Excellent communicator: You articulate your thoughts and ideas clearly—and pass the mic to empower others to be heard.

  • Strong interest in DeFi: Extensive experience using DeFi apps and familiar with the Solana ecosystem.

What Orca offers

  • Salary: 140,000 - 190,000 USDC (Range for US employees)

  • Token allocation: 50,000 - 100,000 ORCA over 4 years (Range for US employees)

  • Opportunity to learn and develop Solana DeFi.

  • Flexible work schedule.

  • Home office stipend.

  • Wellness stipend.

  • Option to work remotely or from Orca’s office in New York City.

  • Paid subscriptions to GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or other tools that make you more productive.

Our hiring process

Orca is transparent and efficient. We move fast, and this process will be short and intense. We believe our process enables us to make decisions quickly so we avoid long, drawn out interview rounds that last weeks.

Initial Screen (50-60 min)

This is an opportunity for us to better understand your experience and knowledge of Solana and DeFi, and an opportunity for you to learn more about the role and company (20-30 min). In the same session, we might ask you to advance directly to a coding exercise so we can evaluate your technical proficiency (30 min).

Final Round (60min each) + COO Chat (20 min)

This round will consist of 3 open-ended coding interviews back-to-back all conducted the same day. It will be with an engineering lead and two more engineers from our team.

You will also have a chat with Isaac, our COO. This is a chance for you to learn about Orca's history, present status, and its bright future.

Our stack

  • Rust, Timescale, Postgres

  • Next.js, Typescript, Zustand, Tailwind

  • Solana's Geyser plugin, Yellowstone gRPC

  • Solana smart contracts using Anchor

  • Terraform, AWS ECS, Datadog, Vercel

  • GitHub, Linear, Notion, Slack

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
