Your work will enable state and local government entities, corporations, and foundations to streamline their grantmaking workflows through scalable and high-performing features.

We’re looking for dynamic and creative engineers who thrive in cross-functional teams and are passionate about taking features from concept through delivery. You’ll own the implementation of new features and improve existing components within our widely used platform.

Core Focus: Delivering seamless and scalable front-end solutions that elevate user engagement and contribute to the success of our grants management platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quickly get up to speed with our software and infrastructure.
  • Implement new front-end features on our grants management platform.
  • Refactor or “burn down” legacy features and components to improve code quality and maintainability.
  • Identify and drive improvements to our front-end, including enhancements to developer experience, infrastructure architecture, and core software to support near-term growth and stability.
  • Collaborate closely with a talented team of test engineers, product managers, and designers.
  • Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
  • Meet regularly with global team members between 9-12 AM EST.
  • Document decisions, write thoughtful pull requests, and contribute to planning docs.
  • Write Documentation and guidelines for internal teams to follow.

Experience Required

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with both legacy and modern web application design paradigms, and experience with at least one full stack.
  • Expertise in React and React Redux.
  • Ability to convert class components to functional in React.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with cloud-native infrastructure and design principles, particularly within AWS environments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other experienced engineers and mentor junior team members.
  • Strong written communication skills with a preference for documenting processes and decisions clearly.

Skills & Competencies Developed

  • Take ownership of medium-sized front-end features, navigating occasional ambiguity in user flows and technical challenges.
  • Deepen your expertise in React/Redux and modern front-end architecture while improving code quality through refactoring legacy components.
  • Collaborate effectively across teams—partnering with back-end engineers, product managers, and designers—to deliver cohesive solutions.
  • Enhance your technical communication skills by writing clear, actionable tickets, documentation, and driving technical discussions.
  • Build autonomy in managing your tasks and begin mentoring junior engineers, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.

How to Advance to Next Level

  • Demonstrate consistent ownership of large, complex features with ambiguous requirements, showing problem-solving skills for edge cases and technical risks.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional efforts within your team, collaborating with others across the tech stack (front-end and back-end).
  • Proactively identify and implement improvements in architecture, developer experience, and platform stability that impact your team’s success.
  • Exhibit strong mentorship by providing constructive feedback and supporting the growth of less experienced engineers.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, influencing team decisions and project directions.

Salary & Location Details: The annual salary range for this position is $110,000-$140,000. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. We also have a location-based compensation structure; there may be a different range for candidates in other locations. We are a happy to consider remote candidates who reside in the continental United States for this role - central and eastern timezones preferred.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
