Build and deploy full-stack healthcare financial products used by millions of patients. Develop AI- and ML-powered features, integrate LLMs, enhance an AI billing assistant, and create patient payment solutions. Collaborate with product, design, and partner engineering teams to deliver production-ready software. Contribute to technical planning, coordinate complex development efforts, mentor peers, and maintain high standards for testing, code quality, efficiency, and technical debt management.
The summary above was generated by AI

Our healthcare system is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the U.S. Every year, over 50 million Americans suffer adverse financial consequences as a result of seeking care, from lower credit scores to garnished wages. The challenge is only getting worse, as high deductible health plans are the fastest growing plan design in the U.S.

Cedar’s mission is to leverage data science, smart product design and personalization to make healthcare more affordable and accessible. Today, healthcare providers still engage with its consumers in a “one-size-fits-all” approach; and Cedar is excited to leverage consumer best practices to deliver a superior experience.

The Role

Our core product team is building the technology that helps patients understand, afford, and manage their healthcare costs.

You'll drive innovation by experimenting with and launching AI and ML powered features; from integrating LLMs into engineering workflows to enhancing an AI chat agent that delivers personalized billing guidance with empathy and compassion.

You'll also lead the design, development, and deployment of full-stack experiences that give patients greater flexibility, confidence, and control over their financial journey, including integrations with leading financial partners to bring new payment solutions to life.

You'll work across the full stack to build and evolve a class-leading patient financial product used by millions of patients annually, collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and partner engineering teams to turn ambitious ideas into clear technical plans and robust, production-ready software.

Beyond the technical work, you'll help shape team direction, coordinate complex development efforts, and mentor peers as we work together to make healthcare simpler, fairer, and more accessible for everyone.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency in independent, hands-on coding and problem-solving, including handling complex edge cases, optimizing for efficiency, and delivering robust solutions within time constraints.
  • Genuine full-stack experience (React/TypeScript and Python/Django or comparable), current project mix leans backend-heavy, so recent hands-on frontend work is still expected.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas clearly, concisely, and with compelling examples, as well as asking insightful clarifying questions.
  • A strong commitment to engineering best practices, including writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, and a proactive approach to managing technical debt.
  • You thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and love solving complex problems.
  • You understand what matters to our end users, patients, and actively shape solutions to help drive the best outcomes for them.
  • Hands-on experience leveraging GenAI and LLMs (preferred).

Compensation Range and Benefits

  • Salary/Hourly Rate Range*: $170,000-$215,00
  • This role offers a competitive benefits and wellness package

*Subject to location, experience, and education

What do we offer to the ideal candidate?

  • A chance to improve the U.S. healthcare system at a high-growth company! Our leading healthcare financial platform is scaling rapidly, helping millions of patients per year
  • Unless stated otherwise, most roles have flexibility to work from home or in the office, depending on what works best for you
  • For exempt employees: Unlimited PTO for vacation, sick and mental health days–we encourage everyone to take at least 20 days of vacation per year to ensure dedicated time to spend with loved ones, explore, rest and recharge
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave with health benefits for all parents, plus flexible re-entry schedules for returning to work
  • Diversity initiatives that encourage Cedarians to bring their whole selves to work, including three employee resource groups: be@cedar (for BIPOC-identifying Cedarians and their allies), Pridecones (for LGBTQIA+ Cedarians and their allies) and Cedar Women+ (for female-identifying Cedarians)
  • Competitive pay, equity (for qualifying roles), and health benefits, including fertility & adoption assistance, that start on the first of the month following your start date (or on your start date if your start date coincides with the first of the month)
  • Cedar matches 100% of your 401(k) contributions, up to 3% of your annual compensation
  • Access to hands-on mentorship, employee and management coaching, and a team discretionary budget for learning and development resources to help you grow both professionally and personally

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
