Job DescriptionCyberArk is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test II to join our Machine Identity Security team. This role is focused on backend and platform-level testing, ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of distributed systems operating at scale.
You will work closely with backend and platform engineers to design and implement automated testing strategies, improve system observability, and ensure that services are robust, scalable, and production-ready. This role goes beyond traditional QA, requiring strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to reason about system behavior across services.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks for backend services and APIs
- Develop and execute test strategies across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers
- Partner with engineers to ensure systems are testable, observable, and resilient
- Identify gaps in test coverage and implement improvements to increase system reliability
- Validate system behavior across distributed services, including failure scenarios and edge cases
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines to ensure reliable and efficient test execution
- Debug and troubleshoot test failures, working across application and infrastructure layers
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to refine requirements and ensure quality is built into the development lifecycle

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 3–5 years of experience in SDET, backend QA, or software engineering with a testing focus
Strong experience in:
- backend/API testing (REST, GraphQL)
- test automation frameworks (JUnit, Playwright, or similar)
- programming in Java, Python, or Go
Experience with:
- CI/CD pipelines and automated test execution
- debugging and root cause analysis across services
- distributed systems or cloud-based applications
Ability to:
- design effective test strategies for complex systems
- reason about system behavior and identify failure points
- collaborate closely with engineering teams on quality and reliability
Nice to Have
- Experience with SaaS or cloud-native products
- Exposure to performance or load testing
- Familiarity with infrastructure components (load balancers, web servers, identity systems)
- Knowledge of security concepts or Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
- Experience using AI tools to improve testing efficiency or coverage

The compensation range for this role is 130,000 - 161,000 base salary, plus equity and discretionary bonus, which will be based on the employee’s performance. Base pay may also vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits.
