About You

You are a highly skilled and independent thought leader with a passion for developing high-quality products. You excel at tackling intricate, open-ended challenges and are capable of forming strong collaborative relationships across various teams. You have a proven track record of building scalable, high-performance applications from the ground up and are adept at influencing strategic decisions within your department or technical domain. You emphasize system-level design, technical strategy and schema design across the domain. Your expertise with Architecture, AI, GenAI, and LLMs enables you to apply these tools effectively to solve complex enterprise problems.

In this role, you will be instrumental in shaping our strategic vision and integrating AI into our enterprise employee-facing applications. As a vital member of the team, you will be responsible for creating company-wide tools that enhance productivity and streamline operations. You will design, develop, and maintain robust products and infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration with third-party and internal services. Your ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and persuasively will be crucial in collaborating across functions and driving impactful solutions. Your work collaborating cross-functionally across your scope allows you to lead, grow, and create opportunities for colleagues so they can scale their impact.

Responsibilities
  • Own the technical architecture and long-term system design for the Talent Tech Engineering domain

  • Set architectural standards and patterns (e.g., service boundaries, data models, integration patterns) adopted across multiple teams.

  • Drive architecture reviews and produce design docs/ADRs that guide other engineers' implementation choices.

  • Identify and de-risk systemic technical debt or scalability constraints before they become team-level problems.

  • Lead and influence longer-term engineering and GenAI-related strategies for Talent Tech Engineering.

  • Lead cross-functional technical efforts, driving alignment and consensus across diverse teams.

  • Design and implement scalable GenAI systems and make critical technical decisions on technology, reliability, and performance.

  • Design, build, and maintain infrastructure for modern integration methods between our applications, third-party services, and other Netflix teams' services.

  • Solve complex, high-impact problems and influence strategies to improve system and product quality across N-Tech Engineering.

  • Influence strategies and execution roadmaps within your department or technical areas of expertise, ensuring alignment with business goals.

  • Deliver a variety of artifacts, including code, algorithms, designs, prototypes, strategies, or architectures, that lead to system simplification and higher impact.

  • Collaborate extremely effectively with product managers, designers, other engineers, stakeholders, and vendors on projects within the team and across all of Netflix.

  • Communicate complex technical issues and business impacts clearly to varied audiences.

  • Mentor, develop, and grow members in your department/sub-function.

We Value
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions

  • Passion for engineering principles and developing tools and applications for impact with high quality

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment where needs shift and clearly articulate priorities and critical outcomes to your team

  • Demonstrated sound judgment by taking a strategic approach to solving technical problems with a holistic view of the business impact

  • Role model for inclusion, ensuring all voices are heard and facilitating the emergence of the best ideas

  • Ability to foster psychological safety and hold colleagues across the sub-function to the same standard

Skills and Experience
  • 10+ years of experience as a software architect/engineer, demonstrably delivering on time and with quality

  • 5+ years of deep experience with AI, GenAI, LLMs, ML, etc.

  • Experience as a technical/systems architect (not just senior engineer) owning cross-team or cross-domain designs.

  • Track record of enterprise architecture governance — data flow, service boundaries, system integration patterns at scale.

  • Experience with architecture frameworks/practices (e.g., C4 modeling, ADRs, TOGAF-style governance) a plus.

  • Expert knowledge of data structures, algorithms, modern design patterns, and layers

  • Expert knowledge of Python and Java.

  • Demonstrable ability to lead a project, deliver an end product on time, at quality, and influence technical roadmaps

  • Passion to build internal solutions and own the development of enterprise-wide applications

  • Extensive knowledge of building quality APIs for internal and external products

  • Lots of experience integrating internal and third-party services into your solutions

  • Expert knowledge of cloud computing platforms like Amazon Web Services

  • Deep experience with Node, JavaScript, React, SpringBoot, NoSQL, and GraphQL

  • Proven track record of mentoring and developing other engineers

  • Ability to shift from tactical to strategic approaches and break down large problems into manageable pieces

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
