Who we are:

Horizon3.ai is a fast-growing, remote cybersecurity company dedicated to the mission of enabling organizations to proactively find, fix and verify exploitable attack vectors before criminals exploit them. Our flagship product, the NodeZeroTM platform, delivers production-safe autonomous pentests and other key assessment operations that scale across the largest internal, external, cloud, and hybrid cloud environments. NodeZero has been adopted by organizations of all sizes, from small educational institutions to government agencies and Global 100 enterprises. It is used by IT Ops/SecOps teams, consulting pentesters, and MSSPs and MSPs.

We are a fusion of former U.S. Special Operations cyber operators, startup engineers & operators, and formerly frustrated cybersecurity practitioners. We're committed to helping solve our common security problems: ineffective security tools and false positives, resulting in alert fatigue, blind spots, "checkbox” security culture, cybersecurity skills shortage, and the long lead time and expense of hiring outside consultants. Collectively, we are a team of learn-it-alls, committed to a culture of respect, collaboration, ownership, and results.

As a remote first company, we require minimum 25Mbps consumer grade broadband connection.

SkillBridge Program Overview

The DoD SkillBridge Program provides transitioning service members the opportunity to gain hands-on civilian work experience during their final months of military service, while continuing to receive military pay and benefits. Participants may spend up to 180 days (programs typically run up to 120 days at Horizon3.ai) in full-time training with an approved industry partner.

Horizon3.ai is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and has invested in this program since our earliest days. One of our first SkillBridge participants joined us in 2020, when the company was still in its infancy. Today, SkillBridge is a core part of how we support transitioning service members and build the next generation of cybersecurity talent.

What You’ll Do (Attack Engineering Track)

SkillBridge participants at Horizon3.ai work directly alongside our Attack Engineering and Vulnerability Research teams on real-world offensive security problems — not simulated exercises.

This program is hands-on, operator-driven, and designed to help you build experience in the same technical areas as our full-time Attack Engineers.

During the program, you may:

  • Onboard into Horizon3.ai’s offensive engineering environment and workflows

  • Develop software primarily in Python, focused on offensive automation

  • Contribute to the development of attack modules that emulate real adversary behavior

  • Assist with vulnerability research, exploit validation, and proof-of-concept development

  • Learn how tradecraft is translated into safe, scalable autonomous pentesting capabilities

  • Gain exposure to attacking modern enterprise environments, including Active Directory, cloud, and hybrid networks

  • Collaborate with senior offensive security leaders and engineers — many of whom are veterans themselves

Participants receive ongoing mentorship, feedback, and support throughout the program.

What We’re Looking For

This program is a strong fit for transitioning service members who:

  • Are within their final months of active-duty service and approved for SkillBridge

  • Have a strong interest in offensive security, red teaming, penetration testing, or vulnerability research

  • Bring a mission-driven mindset, ownership mentality, and bias for action

  • Have foundational technical skills in areas like scripting, networking, cyber operations, or exploit development

  • Are eager to learn, collaborate, and contribute to real-world attack engineering challenges

You do not need prior commercial software experience to be successful - curiosity, discipline, and adaptability matter most.

How to Apply

Horizon3.ai is an approved SkillBridge organization. If you are a transitioning service member interested in participating in our Attack Engineering-focused SkillBridge program, please submit your resume for review. We’ll follow up to determine fit and next steps.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
