About Us

MarketAxess is on a journey to digitally transform one of the world’s largest financial markets, enabling the shift from analog, phone-based trading to a fully electronic marketplace. Why does this matter? Because our platform makes trading fixed-income more accessible, ultimately improving transparency, efficiency, and competition in the marketplace. Changing the way an established industry transacts is no easy feat. There will be twists and turns, because no one’s ever done this before. But now, more than 2,000 clients around the world rely on our solutions, and that number is only expected to grow in the years ahead. We know where we’re going. How we get there is up to us. Join us and help Take Us There.

The Role

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our X‑Pro team and help build and operate a next‑generation trading platform. This is a hands‑on technical role focused on reliability, scalability, and automation. You’ll work closely with other engineers to design, implement, and optimize systems that power our modernization journey to cloud‑native architectures.

As an SRE, you’ll contribute to building robust infrastructure, improving observability, and driving operational excellence. You’ll collaborate across teams, solve complex technical challenges, and set high standards for engineering quality—without formal people management responsibilities.

This role follows a regular work schedule of 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time to support platform coverage and collaboration across distributed teams.

How You’ll Help Take Us There

  • Implement and refine SRE best practices to improve reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Automate workflows and infrastructure to reduce manual effort and accelerate delivery.
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for seamless, secure deployments.
  • Develop and enhance observability solutions—metrics, logging, and tracing—to ensure system health and compliance.
  • Define and monitor SLIs/SLOs, using data-driven insights to improve service performance.
  • Troubleshoot complex distributed systems issues and drive root cause analysis for incidents.
  • Participate in incident response and postmortems, ensuring lessons learned translate into actionable improvements.
  • Collaborate with developers on containerization and cloud-native deployments, optimizing for resilience and scalability.
  • Contribute to infrastructure as code initiatives using tools like Terraform to standardize and automate environments.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, experiment with new tools, and share knowledge with the team.
  • Advocate for reliability and operational excellence across engineering teams through technical influence and collaboration.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or related roles.
  • Strong knowledge of public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Java or Python) and scripting (e.g., Bash).
  • Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
  • Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, etc.).
  • Experience defining and monitoring SLIs/SLOs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in complex distributed environments.
  • Ability to leverage GenAI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot or equivalent) to accelerate development and improve code quality.
  • Applying AI-driven practices such as prompt engineering and AI-assisted code reviews to boost productivity and reduce delivery time while mitigating risks.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to collaborate effectively and explain technical concepts clearly.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

What You Can Expect from Us

  • Hybrid Environment: Our employees enjoy a mix of working in the office and from home
  • Free Food: We provide free lunch for employees when they are working in the office. Plus, our offices are stocked with snacks
  • Paid Time Off: Competitive PTO package including vacation and personal days, sick leave and charity days

For job positions in NYC, NY, and other locations where required, the estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is $110,000 USD to $165,000 USD. Actual salary may vary depending on job-related factors, which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. You may also be eligible for annual cash incentives, equity, and other benefit programs.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
