Job Title

Short-Form Content Creator (TikTok / Douyin – China-Based)

Location

China (Remote or Hybrid depending on city)

 About the Role

We’re looking for a Short-Form Content Creator who specializes in raw, native TikTok and Douyin content and is fully fluent in both Chinese and English.

This role is focused on creating high-volume, performance-driven short-form video content — shot on mobile, fast-paced, authentic, and built for engagement. You will work cross-functionally with an English-speaking marketing team while producing content optimized for Chinese platforms and audiences.

This is not a polished studio or commercial production role. We’re looking for someone who understands what actually performs on Douyin and TikTok today.

A strong portfolio with demonstrable engagement metrics is required.

What You’ll Do
  • Create native short-form videos optimized for TikTok & Douyin

  • Film content primarily on mobile (iPhone / Android)

  • Develop strong hooks within the first 1–3 seconds

  • Produce content formats including:

    • Talking-head videos

    • POV and product demonstrations

    • Problem → solution storytelling

    • Trend-based and remix content

    • Native testimonial and review formats

  • Adapt content style to Douyin audience behavior and trends

  • Collaborate with English-speaking global teams on creative direction

  • Communicate clearly in both Chinese and English (written and spoken)

  • Deliver content consistently and at scale

  • Track and report performance insights (views, engagement, watch time)

Requirements
  • Based in China

  • Fluent in both Chinese and English (spoken and written)

  • Proven experience creating short-form content for TikTok and/or Douyin

  • Portfolio required with live links to published content

  • Demonstrated ability to generate strong engagement metrics

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Douyin and TikTok trends

    • Hook creation and retention

    • Native platform storytelling

  • Comfortable filming independently without heavy production

  • Fast execution and ability to test multiple creative angles

  • Basic editing skills (CapCut, native apps, or similar)

Nice to Have
  • Experience with e-commerce or DTC brands

  • Familiarity with TikTok Shop / Douyin e-commerce

  • Experience adapting content for international audiences

  • Understanding of performance-driven creative (organic vs paid)

 What Success Looks Like
  • Consistent delivery of high-performing short-form videos

  • Strong engagement relative to audience size

  • Clear communication between Chinese and English teams

  • Ability to rapidly test, iterate, and improve content format

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
