Business Area: Content

Job Category: Editorial

Salary: $80,000.00- $ 85,000.00 USD

Union Status: Non-Union

BuzzFeed Inc. is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. We reserve the ability to adjust the final compensation for this role based on the final candidate's experience, skillset, certifications, and geography.

The Role

BuzzFeed Shopping is a destination for service-oriented, entertaining, and informative affiliate content for our fellow shopping enthusiasts (see our “Shopping” page for examples). We are seeking a shopping- and products-focused editor who shares our passion for thoughtfully curating products, enabling readers to make meaningful and informed purchases that enhance their lives.

The ideal candidate for this full-time position is an experienced and conversational writer and editor with proven skill in consumer- and shopping-related content. They will help our audience discover great products through fun and informative formats, including roundups, SEO guides, deals content, and more. Suppose you're the type of person who's constantly discovering quirky kitchen gadgets and/or interesting stores, digging into reviews to find out which viral skincare products actually work, and sending links to your friends until they beg you to stop. In that case, we'd love to hear from you!

You Will

  • Research products in various categories and price points that are of interest to the BuzzFeed audience.
  • Write shareable, unique, and service-forward product roundups as well as SEO-friendly shopping guides and reviews.
  • Track and analyze your posts' site traffic and affiliate performance.
  • Edit shopping content from staff and/or freelancers.

You Have

  • 2+ years of experience writing and editing affiliate shopping stories, either by staff or freelancers.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Flawless spelling, grammar, and usage in your writing.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Genuine love for the internet and online shopping.
  • A positive, curious, playful disposition with a sense of humor.
  • Firm understanding of the BuzzFeed audience and voice.

FYI — just because you don’t meet every requirement doesn’t mean we don’t want to hear from you. If you think you’d be a good fit for the job anyway, use your application to show us why!

To Apply

  • In lieu of a traditional cover letter, please include a response to the following with your application:
    • Discuss your shopping habits (for example: what do you always buy in-store vs. online, how do you find a good deal, what ~special tricks~ do you use that most people don’t know about, etc.).
    • Tell us about a couple of products that you’re obsessed with.
    • Include links to any relevant previous work, social media profiles, or portfolios.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
