LightFeather is seeking an experienced ServiceNow Platform Engineer to lead hands-on platform engineering efforts, with a strong emphasis on upgrade execution, platform governance, and enterprise environment management. This role is more platform engineering focused than a traditional ServiceNow developer position and requires deep expertise in executing full end-to-end platform upgrades.

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining platform stability, leading upgrade cycles, managing integrations, and ensuring strict adherence to change and release governance processes. The ideal candidate brings strong technical execution skills, the ability to operate independently with minimal oversight, and the confidence to provide direction to junior developers while communicating effectively with leadership and clients.

Location: Remote (U.S. based only)
Job Type: Full-time
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required
Clearance Requirement: Active Secret Clearance

Responsibilities
  • Lead technical planning and hands-on execution of ServiceNow platform upgrades and monthly patching cycles.
  • Manage full end-to-end upgrade processes, including skipped record review and decision-making on reverting to out-of-the-box functionality versus retaining customizations.
  • Perform post-clone cleanup activities and coordinate instance refreshes across Development, UAT, and Production environments.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scoped applications using ServiceNow Studio.
  • Manage and troubleshoot integrations using IntegrationHub, REST/SOAP web services, and MID Servers.
  • Troubleshoot API failures, MID Server connectivity issues, and authentication mechanisms including OAuth and Mutual Authentication.
  • Utilize the ServiceNow Application Repository to manage version-controlled, multi-instance releases.
  • Ensure adherence to strict Change Request (CR) protocols and release governance standards to prevent unauthorized deployments.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for platform performance degradation, complex script errors, and database slow queries.
  • Utilize platform diagnostic tools including Script Debugger, Background Scripts, Log Analytics, stats.do, Transaction Logs, All Active Transactions, and Node analysis.
  • Proactively identify and resolve system bottlenecks before impacting end users.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior developers.
  • Provide regular status updates to leadership and proactively communicate risks or blockers.
  • Participate in customer-facing discussions during release schedules and collaborate with scoped application teams to provide technical guidance.
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship and active Secret clearance
  • 3–5+ years of ServiceNow development and platform engineering experience
  • Proven hands-on experience managing at least 2–3 full end-to-end ServiceNow platform upgrade cycles in a large-scale enterprise environment
  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)
  • ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD)
  • At least one ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) certification (Discovery, ITSM, or equivalent product area)
  • Expert-level knowledge of Scoped Application architecture and ServiceNow Studio
  • Strong experience with IntegrationHub, REST/SOAP web services, and MID Server management
  • Experience utilizing the ServiceNow Application Repository for controlled release management
  • Mastery of ServiceNow troubleshooting and diagnostic tools
  • Strong understanding of platform performance optimization and enterprise governance controls
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to execute architect designs independently
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with recent ServiceNow upgrades such as Xanadu or Zurich
  • Experience working in high-governance or federal contracting environments
  • Familiarity with release management tools such as AES or CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong foundation in ITSM modules and enterprise platform performance maintenance

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
