Summary of Position:

The ServiceNow Developer III is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting scalable ServiceNow solutions that enable core business processes across the organization. This role partners closely with product managers, architects, and platform stakeholders to deliver high-quality integrations, workflows, and platform enhancements while ensuring alignment with security, performance, and governance standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, develop, and maintain ServiceNow applications, workflows, business rules, UI policies, UI actions, Flow Designer flows, and scripted components across core modules (e.g., ITSM, CMDB, Asset Management, Integrations).
  • Lead API and integration development to support external customer and partner use cases, including designing secure REST APIs, webhooks, and event-driven push patterns for downstream systems.
  • Build and support ServiceNow integrations using bestpractice patterns and platform capabilities (e.g., IntegrationHub/Spokes, MID Server, REST/SOAP, scripted REST APIs) while enforcing authentication, authorization, and data minimization standards.
  • Partner with security, compliance, and platform governance teams to ensure integrations (especially external-facing endpoints) meet required controls for data protection, auditing, and performance.
  • Serve as a technical lead on complex initiatives, providing guidance on architecture, data models, integration strategies, and development standards.
  • Partner with product managers and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions, including defining interface contracts and field mappings for integrations.
  • Ensure solutions adhere to platform standards for security, performance, availability, and maintainability; proactively identify and remediate scalability and reliability risks.
  • Lead code reviews and promote development best practices across the ServiceNow team (testing, source control, peer review, CI/CD, and release governance).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing durable fixes; support incident/problem management processes.
  • Support platform upgrades, patching, and feature adoption to ensure continued platform health, including remediation of breaking changes and regression testing.
  • Contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement of ServiceNow development processes, including API documentation and runbooks.

Work Environment:
This position is based in a professional office setting and regularly utilizes workplace technology, including computers, smartphones, multifunction printers, cloud-based filing systems, and collaboration tools.
Physical Demands:
This role requires physical capabilities that support the successful execution of key responsibilities. The employee regularly engages in verbal and written communication with colleagues and clients to address project-related inquiries and must be able to convey accurate information clearly and efficiently. The position involves remaining seated at a workstation for approximately 75% of the time, with occasional movement throughout the office to access equipment, supplies, and shared resources. Daily tasks include consistent use of computers and standard office technology such as keyboards, printers, and multifunction devices. The role also involves transporting equipment boxes weighing up to 25 pounds within the building and to other off.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on ServiceNow development experience in enterprise environments.
  • Strong experience with JavaScript, Glide APIs, scripting best practices, and ServiceNow data models.
  • Demonstrated experience building, securing, and operating integrations with external systems (e.g., REST APIs, webhooks, IntegrationHub/MID Server patterns).
  • Experience leading or contributing to platform migrations, including migrating from other ticketing/ITSM systems into ServiceNow (data mapping, transformation, reconciliation, and cutover support).
  • Experience integrating ServiceNow with CMDB/Asset data sources and downstream consumers, including event-driven update patterns and interface contract management.
Qualification:
  • Experience with ServiceNow best practices, platform governance, and upgrade strategies.
  • Strong hands-on development experience with core ServiceNow platform technologies, including Flow Designer, Workflow (legacy), Service Catalog (Catalog Items, Record Producers, Variable Sets/MRVS), and Service Portal / UI Builder.
  • Proficiency with ServiceNow scripting and configuration elements such as Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, UI Policies, UI Actions, ACLs, and Notifications.
  • Experience building and maintaining reports/dashboards and operational visibility (including SLA configuration, metrics, and analytics).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently on complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Experience:
  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification highly desired; additional ServiceNow certifications are a strong plus.
  • Experience designing and operating external-facing integrations using ServiceNow Integration Hub, Service Bridge, scripted REST APIs, and webhook-based push models.
  • Hands-on experience with CMDB, Discovery, Service Mapping, and asset data lifecycle management.
  • Experience migrating from legacy or third-party ticketing/ITSM systems into ServiceNow, including data extraction, transformation, reconciliation, and phased cutovers.
  • Familiarity with performance tuning, scalability considerations, and API governance for high-volume integrations.
  • Experience with Automated Test Framework (ATF), CI/CD pipelines, and source control strategies for ServiceNow development.
  • Experience working in regulated or security-conscious environments with strict compliance and audit requirements.

Compensation
The base pay range for this role is $140,000 – $180,000 per year.
