The Senior Workplace Researcher will lead research projects using mixed methods to enhance workplace environments and experiences, collaborating with cross-functional teams and managing external vendors to apply findings effectively.
About the team
At Atlassian, the Teamwork Lab is dedicated to advancing the science and practice of modern teamwork. We lead industry-defining research on the future of work, AI, distributed collaboration, and the technologies shaping tomorrow's teams. Our insights inform Atlassian's office design, workplace experience programs, and global thought leadership.
Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
About the Role
Are you passionate about shaping the future of work? We're looking for a curious, strategic, and self-driven Senior Workplace Researcher to help us reimagine how physical and digital workplaces can support Atlassians-today and tomorrow. You'll lead research projects from start to finish, using a mix of methods (surveys, interviews, experiments, utilization studies, and ethnography) to uncover insights that drive real change. Your work will guide decisions at the intersection of space, culture, and performance, helping us create more equitable, efficient, and human-centered environments for everyone.

This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

Your work will guide decisions at the intersection of space, culture, and performance, helping us create more equitable, efficient, and human-centered environments for everyone.
What You'll Do
- Design and lead research projects-from scoping and study design to fieldwork, analysis, synthesis, and storytelling.
- Use mixed-methods approaches (surveys, interviews, ethnographic observations, behavioral experiments, environmental sensors) to explore how space, technology, programs, operations + culture shape the employee experience.
- Collaborate with and manage external vendors (ethnographers, utilization study vendors, data analytics providers) to extend our capabilities.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams-real estate, workplace experience, IT, design, and operations-to make sure research is relevant and actionable.
- Turn complex findings into clear, compelling insights for non-research audiences, including senior leaders, using storytelling, visualization, and practical recommendations.
- Stay up to date on trends and best practices in future-of-work, spatial analytics, human behavior, and workplace design.
- Support change management by helping teams interpret research and apply it to real-world solutions.
- Measure your impact through adoption of recommendations, stakeholder feedback, and post-implementation outcomes (like improved workplace satisfaction, utilization, or productivity).
What Success Looks Like
- Your research shapes design, operational, or technology investments at scale.
- Stakeholders find your insights usable, relevant, and easy to understand.
- Projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned to our goals.
- Teams take action based on your recommendations.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's or an advanced degree (i.e., Masters or PhD) in Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Human Factors, Organizational Behavior, Design Research, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience conducting applied research in workplace, design, organizational, or behavioral settings. Experience in consulting, corporate real estate, or workplace strategy is a plus.
- Proven ability to use multi-modal research methods (quantitative and qualitative).
- Experience working with vendors for observational, utilization, or ethnographic research.
- Proficiency with tools like Qualtrics, Miro, Tableau, or Databricks (or similar).
- Ability to present findings in clear, narrative-driven formats for decision-makers.
- Strong stakeholder management skills-you build trust and collaborate across disciplines.
- A self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and proactively finds ways to add value.
- An enthusiasm for AI and its applications to Workplace Experience.
Why Join Us?
- Shape the future of work at the intersection of design, technology, and human behavior.
- Enjoy autonomy in designing and running your research, with access to budget, tools, and partner vendors.
- Be part of a team that values evidence-based decision-making and supports your growth.
- Build your skills in storytelling, influence, and cross-functional impact, with a clear path to senior research leadership.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech
- Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
